Saturday September 5th Race Card Postponed !

Charlottetown, PE – Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park and the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association will postpone the live racing presentation scheduled for Saturday September 5, 2026. The decision is due to the special weather statement issued for Prince Edward Island calling for heavy periods of rain and high winds.

The program, featuring the P.E.I. Standardbred Horse Owner’s Association Driving Championship and Horseperson’s Day along with National Caretakers Appreciation Day presented by Standardbred Canada, has been rescheduled to Tuesday September 8, 2026. Post Time is 6pm.

🐴 Kicking is a natural behavior, but understanding why it happens can help keep both horses and handlers safe.

Horses may kick to create distance, communicate discomfort, or establish boundaries. Fear, pain or discomfort, social conflict, and excess energy are just a few of the reasons a horse may kick.

👀 Pay attention to the warning signs. Pinned ears, tail swishing, shifting weight, side-stepping, or turning the hindquarters can signal increasing tension or discomfort before a kick occurs.

⚠️ If kicking develops suddenly, particularly during grooming, saddling, riding, or handling, consider pain or physical discomfort as a possible cause. A veterinary assessment may be necessary to identify an underlying issue.
