SKATE LIKE MCDAVID

Learn the same mechanics as the best skaters in the world at Cutting Edge’s Skate Like McDavid classes.

McDavid doesn’t skate like a classic power skater with long strides reaching full extension. Instead, McDavid has the highest crossover to stride ratio in NHL history (3:1) while utilizing linear crossovers to reach his top speed in the blink of an eye and his edges to dart in every possible direction on the ice.

Cutting Edge and Head Instructor Trent Sheldon are offering hockey players in the GTA with the opportunity to learn and develop the mechanics behind downhill skating in a systematic and progressive class.

CE MODERN DEFENCE

The best defencemen in hockey aren’t just hard to play against - they drive the game.

Today’s defencemen need more than size and toughness. They need mobility, deception, puck poise, and the ability to play fast under pressure.

Our Modern Defence Class at Cutting Edge Hockey Development Centre is built to develop the complete defenceman for today’s game.

Players will work on:

🏒Escapes under pressure

🏒Offensive activation

CE BODY CONTACT AND CHECKING SKILLS CLASS (2016-2012)

Body contact is part of hockey - but confidence, timing, and technique are what separate smart players from dangerous ones.

Our Checking Skills Class at Cutting Edge Hockey Development Centre is designed to teach players how to:
🏒Give and receive contact safely
🏒Protect themselves along the boards
🏒Angle and contain opponents properly
🏒Build confidence in contact situations
🏒Develop body positioning and puck protection
🏒Learn how to separate players from the puck legally and effectively

This is NOT about running players through the glass.

CE DOWNHILL DYNAMICS

Want to move like McDavid?

Our CE Downhill Dynamics small group sessions are designed for REP players (2016–2012) who want to separate from the pack.

We break down the edge work, acceleration patterns, and deception that make McDavid the most explosive player in the game.⚡️

These sessions are based on the Downhill Skating System developed by kinesiologist and skating expert Jason Yee, and led by our Head Instructor Trent Sheldon, who has been teaching the principles and mechanics of this system for over 4 years. 🧠🏒

Each session will focus on advanced skating mechanics, including:

➡️ Punch turns
➡️ Outside edge rolls
➡️ 10 & 2’s (Mohawks)

CE 3 on 3 sessions

A high-tempo development program combining elite skill instruction with 3-on-3 gameplay.

Players will develop skating, puck skills, shooting, and game awareness while learning how to apply those skills in real game situations with immediate feedback from experienced coaches.

This program provides both the technical and tactical training every young player requires with a particular emphasis on skating, stick handling and shooting skills.

This program accepts a maximum of 12 players per session.
