🍂 The oak trees on our property remind me of the dancers in our studio. They all belong to the oak family, yet their leaves have different shapes, change to different colours, and make that change at their own pace.

At Studio III Dance, our dancers share the same foundations, but their strengths emerge differently. One may turn naturally, another soar in grand allegro—large jumps. Another may excel at quick, intricate petit allegro—small jumps—while another draws your eye through beautiful port de bras, the movement of the arms.

Just as these trees change colour at different times, dancers develop at different times. A skill may come early for one dancer and take longer for another. Progress doesn’t have to happen together to be meaningful.

We can celebrate their individual strengths while giving each dancer the time, encouragement and guidance they need to grow. 💚💜

Same roots. Different strengths. Their own time toshine.

Calling all little pumpkins, witches, superheroes and spooky dancers! Come to class in your Halloween costume and show us your BOO-tiful moves! 💜💚

Choose a costume you can comfortably dance in, wear your proper dance shoes, and leave masks and handheld props at home so we can move safely.

💜 Corrections are part of learning—and every dancer, from beginner to professional, receives them.

At Studio III Dance, our teachers offer guidance to help dancers build technique, develop confidence and progress safely. Sometimes it’s a small adjustment to posture, a reminder to stretch a foot or encouragement to try a different approach. Those details add up over time. 💚

Learning to apply feedback takes patience and practice. We pair corrections with encouragement, celebrate progress and help dancers recognize what they can achieve.

When your dancer shares a correction they received, try asking: “What did you learn?” or “How did that help you?” It’s a wonderful way to support their growth.

We see their effort. We believe in their potential. And we’re here to help them grow. 💜💚

The beauty of ballet is in the details. 🩰

Our dancers begin learning their pointe dance for the Royal Academy of Dance Advanced Foundation exam without pointe shoes. This allows them to concentrate on the intricate arm movements, delicate hand gestures and precise head positions that bring the dance to life.

Through repetition, these movements become muscle memory. When the dancers perform the dance en pointe, their arms, hands and head already know what to do, allowing them to focus on their pointe work while dancing with expression and confidence. 💜💚

🩰 THE HISTORY BEHIND MY BALLET TRAINING

Have you ever wondered who trained your dance teacher and where their knowledge came from?

My ballet journey began in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay) under Mrs. Betty Goodings, an English-trained ballet teacher who taught the Cecchetti Method.

Mrs. Goodings had a fascinating connection to Celia Franca, founder of the National Ballet of Canada. I remember learning that they knew one another in England and had performed together.

Recently, while researching her history, I discovered Mrs. Goodings’ name in the Celia Franca photographic archives. I even recognized her standing beside Celia in a photograph from 1956!

One of my fondest memories is travelling to Toronto with Mrs. Goodings for annual Cecchetti syllabus training at the National Ballet, where I attended as her assistant teacher.

Those experiences were invaluable. They taught me the importance of proper technique, discipline, musicality and building strong foundations in classical ballet.

Decades later, as the owner and Artistic Director of Studio III Dance, those principles remain incredibly important to me. I’m grateful to have teachers who share that same commitment to quality training.

Dance training has a history. It has a lineage. The knowledge our teachers pass on comes from generations before us.

I am so grateful for the opportunities Mrs. Goodings gave me and for the role she played in shaping my life in dance.

Sometimes we don’t fully appreciate what our teachers have given us until many years later. 💚💜

We are thankful for our dancers, their families, and our wonderful teachers. Thank you for filling our studio with laughter, friendship, creativity, and a love of dance.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend spent with the people who mean the most to you. 🦃🍁

A reminder: there are no classes or competition team practices on Monday. We look forward to seeing everyone back in the studio on Tuesday.

Congratulations to Ms Julianne and her family on the arrival of baby Charlotte! 💕

Charlotte arrived on Thursday, October 8, one day after her cousin’s birthday, weighing 8 pounds, 2 ounces. Everyone is doing well, and big sister Isla is very happy with her new baby sister!

We are thrilled to welcome another granddaughter to our family! 💕
