As we head into a new season, we’re excited to continue growing and finding new ways to improve the experience for our students and families.

🥋 Kick Off the 2026–2027 Tournament Season! 🥋

Are you thinking about competing this season? Or have you always wanted to try your very first tournament?
This is the perfect opportunity! Our friends at Kazoku Martial Arts are hosting a fun, safe, and educational tournament for children 12 years old and under, and we’d love to see our Dojo students there.

Whether you’re a member of our tournament team or simply want to experience your first competition, this event is a great way to build confidence, gain experience, and have fun. Shihan Angelo and Sensei David will be there coaching and supporting our students, along with many of our tournament team members.

It’s also a great opportunity for anyone interested in joining our tournament team for the 2026–2027 season to see what competition is all about. We’re also proud to support our fellow Seiwakai member, Sensei James Wyatt, and his dojo.

🥋Let’s represent The Dojo Family Martial Arts!

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie Marie Benoit (nee King) on July 14, 2026 at the Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury, Ontario at the age of 73 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Marjorie was predeceased by her parents Sis and Aaron King, sister Christina King-Seguin, parents-in-law Lena Benoit and Eli Benoit, brothers-in-law Edwin Cake, Mark Malashewski, Tom Maxwell, and sister-in-law Irene Hickey.

Born on June 11, 1953, in Kippens, Newfoundland, Marj met Don Benoit as a young teenager and quickly realized she had met the love of her life. They were married on August 12, 1972 and together built a beautiful life filled with love, family, and purpose.

They settled in Sudbury, Ontario and eventually established Benoit’s Martial Arts, a family-run business that was renowned not only for its excellence in martial arts instruction but also for its dedication to helping young people become the best versions of themselves. Never one to seek the spotlight, Marj devoted herself to the success of the school and wore many hats - administrator, organizer, director, communications expert, financial manager, and the school’s mother figure. Known affectionately as “Mrs. B”, she touched countless lives with her warmth and kindness. Above all, she was Don’s trusted confidante and steadfast partner.

Family was the center of Marj’s life. She was immensely proud of her son and daughter, and when the grandchildren came along they brought her a joy and depth of love beyond measure. She was devoted to her siblings and believed ”the greatest gift our parents gave us was each other”. Her husband’s family became her own. Marj was responsible for organizing many get-togethers and family reunions, resulting in memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Marj was gentle, kind and compassionate and never hesitated to lend a hand, offer encouragement and support, or provide comfort to someone in need. She believed deeply in kindness, in the grace of second chances, and in looking for the good in people. Her love, light and unwavering compassion left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved best friend and husband of nearly 54 years, Don Benoit, son Terry Benoit (Annik, children Lucas, Marcus, Kurtis, Lia), daughter Donna Benoit (Angelo Panoussis children Luke (Cera), David (Christina), Abigail), siblings Geraldine Cake, Debbie Butt, Allan King (June), Shirley Malashewski (Mark), Cathy King (Bob), Beverley King (Wanda), sisters-in-law Hilda Short (Herb), Venecia Cornect (Terry), Shirley Benoit, Virginia Benoit, Pauline Maxwell; brothers-in-law Felix Benoit (Jeannie), Fintan Benoit (Maria), Roy Benoit (Grace), Paul Benoit (Bonnie), Pius Benoit (Sheila), Scott Benoit (Leslie), Leonard Benoit, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Marj’s kindness, unwavering love, and generous peaceful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever
remembered.

Very special thanks to Dr. Christine Clendenning for her support and loving care, and to the wonderful staff and volunteers at Maison McCulloch Hospice (https://maisonsudburyhospice.org/donate/). Donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice, in Marj’s name, would be greatly appreciated.
In keeping with Marj’s wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

We’re so grateful for all the students, families, coaches, and volunteers who came together to make this tournament such a success. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped bring this event to life we couldn’t have done it without you. Already looking forward to the next one! 👊

Due to recent weather concerns, and for the safety and well being of our clients we have decided to close The Dojo today. We feel it is in everyone’s best interest to stay off the roads and not take a chance. The Dojo will be reopening tomorrow (Friday January 16th 2026) for our regular business hours. We look forward to seeing you at your next class.
