Local High School athletes were celebrated this week at the annual Breakfast of Champions. This Orillia Sport Council event celebrates young athletes who have demonstrated commitment, leadership, perseverance, and excellence in their school and local community.

Huge congratulations to our Head Coach Tracey Zwiers on this incredible and well-deserved recognition! ⛸️💙

For more than 40 years, Tracey has dedicated herself to inspiring generations of skaters, building an inclusive and supportive community, and truly embodying the spirit of volunteerism. Her impact goes far beyond the ice — as a mentor, leader, and advocate, she has shaped countless lives and helped grow the sport in such a meaningful way.

Being inducted into the Orillia Sports Hall of Fame is a testament to the lasting legacy she’s created through passion, dedication, and heart.

Local Orillia hockey player, Richard Scott, grew up playing hockey in Orillia and went on to play in the NHL for the New York Rangers.

Richard Scott will be officially inducted at this year’s Orillia Sports Hall of Fame on May 9.

Local Orillia Figure Skating Club volunteer and dedicated leader of over 40 years, Tracey Zwiers, will be inducted into the Builders’ Category of the Orillia Sports Hall of Fame.

“Zwiers’ influence extends far beyond coaching on the ice… a tireless volunteer, mentor, leader, and advocate.”

Tracey Zwiers will be officially inducted at this year’s Orillia Sports Hall of Fame Gala on May 9 at Casino Rama.

The 1985 Orillia Travelways team will be inducted into the Orillia Sports Hall of Fame in the Team Category.

This ice hockey team won the Centennial Cup on home ice. Members of the championship team included Adam Lewis, Cory Amato, Gary Turpin, Wh**ey Lacomen, Dennis Schrapp, Ernie Hall, Jon Lawson, John Plumb, Tyler Verhaeghe, Mitch Caouette, Dave Nicholls, Scott Brydges, Jamie Clarke, Steve McCharles, Mark Ziliotto, Blair McReynolds, Doug Kirton, Steve King, Brad McClocklin, Guy Jacob, Shawn Lavoy, and Brian McReynolds. The team’s general manager was Bob McFadden. Gary Marsh was the coach, alongside assistants Ray Flaherty and Brad Graham. Trainers were Chuck Edwards and John Orr.

The Travelways will be officially inducted at this year’s Orillia Sports Hall of Fame Gala on May 9 at Casino Rama.
