Orillia Badminton Club resumes play for Winter 2026

Happy New Year!

The Orillia Badminton Club will resume play for the winter on Tuesday evenings at the Georgian College Orillia campus beginning on Jan. 6th and on Thursday evenings at Orillia Secondary School beginning on Jan. 8th.

Tuesdays, 7-9pm, Georgian College Orillia Campus
Cost: $30 per player for current members and $50 per player for new members (includes Thursday play at OSS) for the winter season from Jan. 6 to Apr. 14, 2026.

Please bring cash or a cheque made out to Orillia Badminton Club on your first night of play. E-transfer is NOT available. ”Drop-in” play will not be permitted at this time.

Thursdays, 8:15-10:00pm, Orillia Secondary School
No additional cost for existing members. Fee for new members is $20. Winter season runs from Jan. 8th to May 28th, 2026. There will be no badminton on Mar. 12th and 19th. Other cancellations may occur based on school events. Bus cancellations due to weather conditions has no affect on our permit, and we may continue to play.

Please bring indoor, non-marking shoes. Outdoor shoes are NOT permitted in the gym.

Simcoe County District School Board has just notified me that our booking has been cancelled at OSS on November 27 at 8:15.

I just received notice from the Simcoe County district school board that badminton is cancelled Thursday, November 20 at 8:15.

Badminton is cancelled at Georgian College on November 4 for their annual event.

Important Information about Thursday night badminton at OSS

It was great to see another good turnout at Thursday night badminton last night at OSS.

Since this is the first year we have a permit for Orillia Secondary School, please read the following important information about our responsibilities as guests of the facility.

Our permit is from 8:15pm to 10:00pm on Thursday evenings. The doors at the front of the school will be unlocked 10-15 minutes before the permit start time and locked 10-15 minutes after the permit start time. The doors to the school are to remain locked at all other times for security reasons. We are responsible for vacating the school by 10:00pm which means that all play should be finished by 9:50pm.
Our permit is only for the 6 courts in the large gym. Please DO NOT use any of the courts in the small gym at any time since we do not have a permit for their use. It is a liability issue for the Orillia Badminton Club and may result in our permit being revoked.
A small private club has a permit for the courts in the small gym from 7-9pm on Thursdays, and that is why you may see some people (including some Orillia Badminton Club members that belong to that club as well) playing on those courts until 9pm. After 9pm, no badminton should be played on the courts in the small gym by anyone.
Any members under the age of 18 years must wear eye protection while playing. This is a requirement of our permit and our insurance.
No outdoor shoes are allowed in the gym. Please put your indoor shoes on once you are inside the school, so we do not dirty or damage the floor.
When coming off or going on courts please be very careful not to interfere with play on other courts for the safety of everyone.
Please be polite and respectful to all custodial staff. They do a wonderful job and have great influence over whether a club is granted future permits.

Inclusive Play
The Orillia Badminton Club has a policy of fair, fun, and inclusive play. Everyone should feel welcome and comfortable, regardless of skill level. To achieve this, please adhere to the following guidelines as best as possible.
Avoid playing consecutive games with the same people. Try to play with as many different people as possible during the evening regardless of skill level. The club does not support dividing members into different skill levels.
Avoid using the same court for the evening. Some of the courts have better lighting, or cleaner lines on the floor, so everyone should have the opportunity to play on the more “preferred” courts at some point during the evening.

Please note there is no badminton at OSS on Thursday September 25.

School doors will be open 10-15 minutes before our permit start time (8:15 pm) to10-15 minutes after. Also no badminton on snow days.

Badminton at Georgian College on Tuesday evenings suspended for duration of Support Staff Strike
Ontario College Full-time Support Staff are now on strike as of Sept. 11th. This means that our permit to play badminton at the Orillia Campus at Georgian College on Tuesday evenings is now suspended until the strike is over. We will keep you updated and let you know when Tuesday play will resume.

Thursday evenings at Orillia Secondary School (OSS), 250 Collegiate Drive, are not affected and play will begin on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025 from 8:15-10:00pm. Enter through main doors at the front of OSS. Doors may be locked at 8:30pm for security reasons.

Orillia Badminton Club Update for Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 Season

The Orillia Badminton Club is excited to announce that it has obtained a permit at Orillia Secondary School (OSS) for Thursday evenings from 8:15pm to 10pm beginning Sept. 18th.

In addition, the club will continue to play at the Georgian College Orillia campus on Tuesday evenings this fall from 7-9pm beginning on Sept. 9th in case there are members that can’t attend the Thursday evening sessions, or there are members that would like to play twice per week.

Details:
Tuesdays, 7-9pm, Georgian College Orillia Campus
Cost: $50 per player for the fall season from Sept. 9 to Dec. 16, 2025 (if enough players want to continue to play on Tuesday evenings at Georgian in the winter then we can extend our permit).
- 3 courts.
- Parking on campus is $7/evening, but you can park for free at the Public Health Ontario Laboratory parking lot, a 5-minute walk from the campus
- No cancelled dates unless the college is closed for emergency purposes.
- Cost is higher since the club has to pay the full cost of the rental permit.
- Players that pay the fee for playing on Tuesday evenings will NOT be charged another fee if they want to play on Thursday evenings at OSS as well.

- Cost is lower since the government subsidizes most of the cost of the rental permit.

We have had a great turnout for members this season. In saying that, we regret that we are unable to take on more players. If you are interested in playing, we can add you to the waiting list.

Badminton begins on Wednesday, Sept. 18th

The Orillia Badminton Club is excited to offer another season of badminton at Georgian College in Orillia beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 18th at 7pm. The fee this year is $100 for the season which will run until May 28, 2025. Please bring cash or a cheque made out to Orillia Badminton Club on your first night of play.

The gym is located on the second floor (please see attached map of the Orillia campus). Parking on campus is $7/evening, but you can park for free at the Public Health Ontario Laboratory parking lot, a 5-minute walk from the campus. Please see the attached map for the location of the Public Health Ontario Laboratory parking lot.
