3 Things I Wish I Knew at the beginning!

Structure - build the position of your hands, wrists and arms to allow the gun to cycle and operate like it’s in a vice or chassis. It’s not about pressure as much as structure and where your bones support the gun.

Slow vs Fast in Learning - You need to be comfortable shooting quickly for most people’s end goals. So shooting slowly a lot of the time in your training calendar is not going to help you. Plus, a lot of us over confirm the sights. Yes, OVER CONFIRM, like you stare at them as if they are not already telling you “yes, you can shoot now”. The sight(s) are never wrong.

Friction Necessary to Learn - friction forces your brain to struggle, which is the exact biological trigger required to forge new neural pathways and consolidate memory. Without that resistance, you aren’t actually acquiring a new skill. You are merely experiencing an illusion of fluency that will vanish the moment you test it.

If this helps you, send it to a friend to help them too!

Don’t forget to like, follow and tag 2 friends for your chance in this second half of the summer Member Appreciation contest!

Advanced Pistol / Tactical Pistol - Best of the Best

This course is about developing your thinking as much as it is further developing your shooting skill. Micro drills with contextual relevance give participants an insight into where they are strong and where they can work more. While we don’t truly believe there are “advanced” shooting skills - merely perfecting the fundamentals - it helps frame the course content.

No training is a perfect recreation of reality, so instead we strive to give participants realism when it helps them most, and equally ignore it when it suits the goal. Not all drills need to have a perfect backstory to have utility in developing your abilities. Familiarity with undesirable starting positions, for example, means you’re not improvising when life happens. We aren’t recommending that you drop to your side to shoot.

Similarly, you may not have 5 different bad guys in your engagement. But by setting up 5 different targets we can simulate one bad guy moving. I can go on.

These courses require the highest degree of safety, confidence and control. Some of these drills are set up specifically for the military, law enforcement and armed security professionals pictured here. We even encourage uniform members to be a pro by offering the lowest course tuition for the Tactical Pistol course.

See you on the range!

Intermediate Pistol: why take this course?

This course is designed to help students learn how to use a holster and move to the next level in shooting confidence and ability. It covers basic movement, finding the limits of your shooting and learning how to self-diagnose to adjust what works for you.

Our holster certification is recognized at most of the top ranges in Ontario and is taught with the provincially approved curriculum by instructors vetted by the province.

Just a reminder, rental Glocks and Sigs are available for $85/day!

Silverdale is a great place to learn holster use and movement, and when we take over a range we have a great - and super safe - range day!

Here’s our upcoming pistol classes:

June 14th - Basic Pistol
July 19 - Basic Pistol
July 25th  - Intermediate Pistol
Aug 9 - Advanced Pistol Clinic
August 15- Tactical Pistol

14 Dec 10am-1pm: Intro to De-esc for Police Applicants (3 hours)
