If you came to this post worried it was about to blame you: it isn’t.
Please read that again slowly.
I know this one from the inside. I’m an ADHD mother who spent years running on cortisol while holding a protocol together.
What I learned is that this is the cause mothers feel most ashamed of and talk about least.
Here is what the science points to.
Young children learn calm by borrowing it from their caregivers.
That’s co-regulation, and it needs a calm person to borrow from.
When you’re in alarm, there’s less calm to lend.
That isn’t a failing.
It’s a tank running empty after months of doing this mostly alone.
Notice what most mothers see first: not the child, but their own slipping routine.
The missed supplement, the unprepared meal, the “we’ll restart Monday.”
People call that laziness. It’s exhaustion, and it feeds the loop.
So don’t overhaul your life this week. Do two things.
• First, five minutes a day of slow exhale breathing, humming, or cool water on your face.
• Second, on a hard week, cut the protocol down to three non-negotiables and do those perfectly: the diet foundation, sleep, and fluids.
Then ask for a second pair of hands. One task, one person, one hour.
This is part of what we explore in the Mindset and Nervous System pillars of Fast Track, where we focus on practical tools, understanding nervous system patterns, and the support options available to families who want to go deeper.
If it’s heavier than stress, or you don’t feel safe, call your doctor or a crisis line in your country today.
Educational only. Always work with a qualified supervisor or practitioner before adding or changing any supplement.
🗂️ Save this for the hardest week. Share it with a mother who needs this reminder.
