The Ayabeh Summer Challenge Committee is thrilled to announce that Jaxon Fraser of Saint Mary’s First Nation has been selected as the recipient of this year’s Indigenous Student Scholarship. This award recognizes his hard work and commitment to academic excellence. We look forward to seeing all that he will accomplish in the coming academic year.

The Ayabeh Summer Challenge is proud to announce the 2nd Annual Ayabeh Summer Challenge $5,000 Student Scholarship!

We believe that education is one of the greatest investments we can make in our future. This scholarship was created to recognize and support a recipient who demonstrates dedication to their education, leadership within their communities, and a commitment to achieving their goals.

Whether you are attending high school, college, university, a trade school, or another post-secondary program, we encourage you to apply.

The Ayabeh Summer Challenge – Senior Edition, originally scheduled for August 13–16, 2026, has been postponed.

Due to venue complications, scheduled renovations, and several teams being unable to travel during the middle of August, the Ayabeh Committee has made the difficult decision to postpone the tournament.

Teams that have already paid their registration fees are asked to contact [email protected] to arrange a full refund.

New dates & venues will be announced for the Senior Edition.

🏒Charly Washipabano Coaching Award 🫎🏒

The Ayabeh Summer Challenge is proud to recognize Sunny Papatie as the 2026 recipient of the Ayabeh Charly Washipabano Coaching Award.

This award is presented annually to a coach who demonstrates an extraordinary love for the game of hockey and an unwavering commitment to developing our youth both on and off the ice.

This year, Sunny’s dedication was nothing short of inspiring. He coached and managed U11 Recreational, U13, U15 Recreational, U15 Competitive, and U18 Competitive, while also helping build three additional teams. His countless volunteer hours, leadership, and selfless commitment ensured that hundreds of Indigenous youth had the opportunity to play, compete, and grow through the game we all love.

Migwetch, Sunny, for everything you do. Your commitment to our youth is truly appreciated.

This award proudly bears the name of Charly Washipabano, a man who will forever hold a special place in the hearts of the Ayabeh family.

Charly was far more than an exceptional coach. He was a devoted family man, a respected ambassador of the game, a mentor, and above all, an incredible human being. This award was created to ensure that his legacy of kindness, leadership, humility, and love for our youth continues to inspire future generations.

You are deeply missed, Charly. Your spirit, your generosity, and your passion for life and hockey will never be forgotten.

Le Ayabeh Summer Challenge est fier de souligner Sunny Papatie, récipiendaire 2026 du Prix d’entraîneur Charly Washipabano.

Ce prix est remis chaque année à un entraîneur qui démontre un amour exceptionnel pour le hockey ainsi qu’un engagement indéfectible envers le développement de nos jeunes, autant sur la glace qu’à l’extérieur.

Cette année, le dévouement de Sunny a été tout simplement remarquable. Il a été entraîneur et gérant des équipes U11 Récréatif, U13, U15 Récréatif, U15 Compétitif et U18 Compétitif, en plus d’avoir contribué à la création de trois autres équipes. Grâce à son immense implication bénévole, son leadership et son engagement, des centaines de jeunes autochtones ont pu vivre leur passion pour le hockey dans un environnement positif et rassembleur.

Migwetch, Sunny, pour tout le temps, l’énergie et le cœur que tu offres à notre jeunesse. Ton impact dépasse largement le hockey.

Ce prix porte fièrement le nom de Charly Washipabano, un homme qui occupera toujours une place toute spéciale dans le cœur de la grande famille Ayabeh.

Charly était bien plus qu’un excellent entraîneur. Il était un père de famille dévoué, un ambassadeur respecté de notre sport, un mentor et surtout un être humain exceptionnel. Ce prix a été créé afin que son héritage de bienveillance, de leadership, d’humilité et d’amour envers nos jeunes continue d’inspirer les générations à venir.

Tu nous manques énormément, Charly. Ton amour de la vie, du hockey et de ta communauté ne sera jamais oublié.
