Ippon Wado Karate Ottawa

Hello to the Avalon Community and those who frequent the Avalon Park. Ippon Wado Karate Ottawa is proud to be a member of your community and to support you through the Karate Programs we offer. We rent the Avalon Community Center from the city of Ottawa two time a week. The time made available to us by the City of Ottawa are provided to us as a privately booked event. Under the rules of our agreement we are not allowed to provide access to the building to the general public. We do appreciate that the surrounding park and area are utilized by a number of various groups and individuals who, from time-to-time, may wish to gain access to the Avalon Community Center. Unfortunately Ippon Wado Karate Ottawa and it's staff are not in a position to accommodate those requirements, both from a legal perspective and a resource perspective.

We do understand the frustration individuals feel when they have a requirement to utilize the center and it's facilities and are unable to. We highly recommend that you plan ahead and make any necessary arrangement to find alternative solutions.

What a fun day at today's class where our Little Dragons competed in a team challenge event. Red October dominated against Blue Dragons but honestly, everyone did awesome. There were 4 challenges ranging from speed and coordination, team balancing, flag capture kumite and Kihon Waza challenge. Energy and excitement was running high, not only with the Little Dragons but parents and instructors as well. Well done everyone, so fun to be part of!

PS, I think some of us let it go to our head😎!

I stumbled across this old tee shirt from a memory of long ago. 50+ years it has been hiding in a draw and long forgotten. I was a member of a small karate school in Prince Albert, Sk and had the opportunity to compete in tournaments in Regina and Moose Jaw. I managed a Bronze in Kumite as I lost out on the Gold and Silver challenge to a Self Defence Instructor for the RCMP. Unfortunately the tee shirt has shrunk and no longer fits me😔.

A great day at Karate Du Plateau with Simon and his club along with Norma and Cathy. So good to see everyone and so good to learn, laugh and practice with a great group of Karateka Practitioners!

This past Saturday I had the wonderful experience of stepping up to an invitation by Karate Du Plateau to teach a class at their dojo. I would like to thank Simon for the invitation and the students who participated. What a wonderful group, very polite, dedicated and welcoming. We spent 2 hours together conducting a deep dive into Kihon Waza, Kihon Kumite and Kata; I enjoyed every minute of it!

This past weeks several students from IWKO stepped up and challenged for their respective belts. The coaching team would like to congratulate them all on their awesome performance and of course their success. Well done, you all did great and so proud of you! Pictures always tell the story so here are a few.

Spring is in the air and so is registration for IWKO's spring session. We have some students ready for belt grading this coming week and will be prepping others for their grading in the coming months. Students - get ready to rumble!

We have a few spots open in our Little Dragon Program on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evening. In addition we have 4 spots open in our Karateka Program, which is for students 10+.

We get so much positive feedback from our students and their respective family members about the quality of our program. Parents for the Little Dragons often comment on the positive approach that is taken by the instructor team.

New students always have the opportunity to try us out for 2 classes with no charge and a free uniform is provided for those who choose to stay. Come give us a try!

This week the Little Dragons had the opportunity to compete for the title of Club Champion. For all of you who gave it your best, you are a champion already and you all did wonderful. That being said, it is always a difficult task for the IWKO Team to choose overall winners. Thanks to the instructor team we managed to do just that and here are a few pictures.
The best part is that we all had a lot of fun!!

Just a short note to thank the Greater Avalon Community Association for posting information about our Karate Program on their FB page. It is really great to have community members sharing information about our club and programs. Wouldn't it be amazing if every member told 3 people about our club.

Hello. First class of 2026 starts this Wednesday evening and the trainers of IWKO are looking forward to see you all at the Aquaview Community Centre. Little Dragons start at 6:00 sharp and the Karateka program follows at 7:00.

Lets get ready to expend some energy as we all continue our wonderful karate journey!
