One of the most common sources of knee pain is patellar tendonitis and it often comes from a weak VMO (the tear-drop muscle on the inside of your knee).
The VMO works mostly in the top and bottom 30° of knee flexion — the exact ranges where most people are weak and where patellar tendonitis shows up.
Poliquin Step-Ups rebuild the VMO by targeting the top portion of the range.
Split Squats load the VMO and the patellar tendon in the bottom portion of the range, where most tendon issues start.
Split Squats also stretch the hip flexor of the back leg — which is huge, because tight hip flexors pull your pelvis forward and increase stress on the knee.
Opening that hip reduces tension on the quad and patellar tendon, so the knee can track properly again.
Together these two movements strengthen the quad, improve tracking, and make the patellar tendon work hard in the right way so it adapts instead of getting irritated.
