Meet the team! ❤️🩵

Smudge and Kyra

Smudge, “Long Cut Smoke,” is a 5-year-old registered Quarter Horse mare. This is her first season doing drill, as she was purchased in the fall. When she’s not practicing drill, she spends her time playing in the field with her herd mates. She’s a big fan of treats—especially homemade oat and molasses ones!
This is Kyra’s sixth season on the drill team, and her favourite part is the wonderful friends she has made. Smudge lives at Six-L-Acres in Hammond, Ontario.

Meet the team! ❤️🩵

Jenn C & Henry

Jenn and Henry have only been riding together for a year and this will be Henry’s second season as an equine member of The Capital Cowgirls Drill Team. He was previously a member of the Cutting Edge Cowgirls Drill Team so this is not his first rodeo 😂

Henry, aka Wimpy’s Dual Rey, is a 6 year old QH gelding. He is a very curious guy always interested in whatever is going on around him. He loves the applause of the crowd and as soon as the music starts, he knows his job. He’s looking forward to his second season on the team because he knows he gets an apple treat after every show!

When Jenn and Henry aren’t riding on the team they enjoy trail rides, learning new things at clinics and cattle sorting.

Leah & Topper

Topper also known as “Torimas Got Guns” is a 14-year-old Registered Quarter Horse. Leah has owned Topper since he was 6, and they’ve been on the team every year since! When Topper and Leah aren’t with the Cowgirls, they’re running barrels at all kinds of events, from club shows to rodeos! Although Topper can sometimes be a bit shy, he loves to hear the audience’s applause during our drill routine, and he’s always got his ears forward for the camera!

Meet the team!!🩵❤️

Roxy and Ava! Roxy is an 11-year-old paint Quarter Horse mare, and Ava has owned her for 9 years. Before joining the team, Ava saw the cowgirls perform at a fair and knew right away she wanted to be part of it.

When Roxy was younger, she started out as a cutting horse, but once she was introduced to barrel racing, she fell in love. She enjoys practicing and improving every chance she gets, and together, they are always willing to try new things and excited to take on new challenges! Full of s***k, Roxy is always ready to perform and bring her energy to the arena. Her favorite snack? Cinnamon rolls!

This is Roxy’s 6th season on the drill team, and she loves every minute of it. Ava’s favorite part of being on the team is the away shows, where they get to camp with the horses and spend time together as a team making memories along the way.

Meet the team❤️🩵 Dolly & Victoria
Dolly, registered as Clays Painted Lena, is a 22-year-old mare. Victoria has had her since she was 15, and she’s been a solid member of the drill team ever since.
Don’t let her age fool you — she still enjoys getting out on the trails and riding in drill. She is a calm and steady mare.
Dolly has been part of the team for 7 seasons.

Meet the team!❤️🩵

Melissa Leduc and Dandy / Everlast

Everlast and Dandy are currently the oldest horses on the team! Dandy is 26 and Everlast is 25!

Everlast a.k.a Medic Alert is a 16hh Registered Quarter Horse gelding. He was adopted by Melissa when he was 8 years old. He has spent most of his life teaching children and adults of all levels how to ride, he has dappled in Dressage, Vaulting, Roping, Barrel Racing, and even Acting! If Melissa isn’t riding him in drill someone else surely is! He’s known as the trusty old man!

Dandy a.k.a I’m Special Too is a 14.3hh Registered Quarter Horse mare. Melissa purchased her as a green broke 7 year old and trained her up to be a 1D Barrel Racer. Melissa tried to retire her at the age of 20 however Dandy being, well Dandy… said absolutely NOT and she had to be pulled out of her short retirement where she became a full time member of the Capital Cowgirls Drill Team and teaches younger riders how to barrel race.
Oh and fun fact…she also has one eye…

Both horses reside at Six-L-Acres in Hammond, Ontario, a relaxing equine facility run by the Leduc family. Melissa has been coach and trainer for the horses on the Capital Cowgirls Drill Team since 2018.
