The NEW .hq Nitro Goalie skates are out. The blades are very nice to sharpen, and even better at holding your edges(even though you goalies love running into the pipes) between sharpenings.

Check out the new toe design from this angle that allows you to get closer to the post to cut off the angles for shots. More info on these skates to come!

Joe got to the ice before some Minto Skating Club skaters to ask a question about a piece of equipment from the past. Let’s see if they knew what it was!

How we Shim📐

We install shims,3D printed when given notice, for helping stance on ice. Doctor prescription or not, we can help get things going easier for you. We’ve had many inquiries about putting these shims on the “wrong side”. Here’s a basic “how it works” for shim with regard to Pronation and Supination.

We can make sure you have skates in your size in stock to try on, so you can leave feeling comfortable and in the proper skate for you. We stock .ultima and as well as , and Ultima skate blades.

Long Distance Profiling

Last Thursday Joe had 4 sets of DLC steel come in from Singapore. Niko has been sending in steel for adjustment for the last while. This time he’s requested different contours and profiles from our E-P3. Each blade was set up differently for him.

If you’re from Singapore, or just local, we can take steel from Barrhaven on Thursday and have it back to you by Monday if you’d like to try the Elite contour bars. We are able to provide you with which lever profile you’d prefer.

Tongue tied🤪

When you need something a little different, upgrade to Sniper Tongues. Felt backed with a layer of foam and plastic for puck protection. You can get them in any colour like like, as long as it’s back and white.

Do your blades have auto steer?

We suggest that 100% of the time you purchase new boots and blades that you test out their alignment. That means we want you to make sure they go in a straight line, forward and backwards, on both feet for you. Not everyone is going to glide correctly if the blade is exactly in the middle of the boot.

What happens if your blades aren’t actually straight and you’re trying to do this test? They will pull to the inside or outside, but never the same amount. Going in a straight line will have a wobble. Curves will have some grip in one direction and very little in the other.

If you’re having issues and you’ve just purchased new skates, this is a quick check you can do at home to confirm your blades are installed correctly.

Why do we as skate sharpeners check for this? We sharpen in a straight line. If your blades are not straight, we are sharpening the toe and the heel of your blades. We are then not sharpening the middle of your blades.
