Let's talk about the green flag fellas and why we love them. ✅

Not because they lift heavy things (although they sure do) or because they’re motivated (although they really are). But because they want to learn from, be coached by, respect and train alongside anyone without question. ✅💪

At Iron North, some of our longest-standing members and biggest supporters are men who have no issue walking into a class led by a woman (we've 8 of them!), taking her feedback, asking questions, and working really hard. They understand that coaching is about knowledge, aptitude, and helping people become better, regardless of gender, identity, race or body shape.

The reality is that many women still face assumptions in strength sports and fitness spaces. Sometimes it’s subtle. Sometimes it’s not. So when men show up, respect the space, support their training partners, and contribute to a culture where everyone belongs, it matters. We notice.

Strong communities aren’t built by one type of person. They’re built by people who value effort, respect, humility, and growth.

One of our favourite things is watching a room full of men trust the process, load up a barbell, get absolutely wrecked…and then ask what we’re doing next week.

That’s a green flag. Thanks fellas. 💚

Supporting YOUR life with inclusive options. 🫱🏽‍🫲🏻

Today, Marcelo, our resident Athletic Therapist, welcomed a lovely patient with their baby in tow. As a Dad of three, he sure gets it! Marcelo ensured mom and baby were both comfortable through the whole treatment and afterward.

Whether you’re here for a treatment, personal training or class, we have options to suit diverse needs. Here’s how we can support you.👇

PARENTS 😴
Kids are welcome! Some restrictions and suggestions apply and we’ve a whole set of guidelines for consideration for parents of littles to teens. Psst: we’ve got baby seats, play centres, toys and a safe and comfortable space to nurse our smallest guests.

DOGS 🐾
We loooovvveee our fur babies too. Like our flesh babies, fur baby visits are conditional by following and respecting our pet policy. Always consult a team member before bringing your pup on site to ensure it’s appropriate and all human guests present are comfortable with dogs present.

MOBILITY & DISABILITY 🩼
Vision, hearing, sound, agility…let us know what we can do to welcome you when access to spaces can be/feel limited based on your needs.

INJURY & RECOVERY 🤕
Recovering from injury, illness, surgery, a medical event or are going through it, you still may be able to visit with modifications and careful personal programming/assistance! Our team is accustomed to supporting athletes during and post physical or mental injury/recovery. Consult with us and discover options!

NEURODIVERGENCE 🧠
Texture, space, instruction, learning…when your needs are unique or personal, we often have an option for you! Mental, physical and neurological health are top of mind. Let us know how we can help.

PRICING 💸
Guests who need financial love can take advantage of our sliding scale & no application 5-class pass at anytime!

At Iron North, we aim to reduce the barrier of entry for as many individuals we can. While we are always learning and improving, we welcome the opportunity to improve access and inclusion day to day. Connect with us about any of our inclusivity, child and pet policies to learn more!

Two and a half months left for our most of our triathletes in our 2026 triathlon club. Four months left for athletes. Our club members range from:

💜 Absolute beginners
🏆Experienced age-group contenders
🫱🏽‍🫲🏻Parents, students, q***r, differently abled, mixed races, diverse income, entrepreneurs and a myriad of differences that bring each together in their journey to sprint, Olympic, half and full Ironman races.

We are proud of the 20 club members in their commitment so far through an especially long and gruelling winter. Sunny skies and outdoor rides coming real soon!

Saturdays (after you all leave) are for maintenance on our steel equipment. 🧼 It’s a satisfying few hours of grime to shine.

After 10 years and a Lysol-infused pandemic, our barbells, dumbbells and kettlebells take a beating. Every once in a while we remove the oxidation and spruce up our steel for your comfort and safety. The process involves an acid free/skin safe rust removal soak, a thorough scrub and a deep oil and set of surfaces. It’s kind of gross, but worth it!

How can you help us keep our equipment rust free?
👉 Keep it dry! If you wipe down equipment with anything wet or cleaner, or if you sweat/drip sweat on steel, please wipe down THEN ensure it’s dry with a paper towel. Wet surfaces oxidize quickly and this is how to build up begins.

See you Sunday! A few fresh barbells coming right up. 🤗

Doors up ⬆️ Sun’s in. 😎 Here we go!

Spring has landed (can we actually say that with our full chest now?) Either way, we’re overdue to welcome warm weather! But first, a few reminders as we move into actual spring…for real real this time:

🌷 Please continue to ONLY wear indoor shoes for training. Wiping outdoor shoes off is no bueno. Please please please.

🌷 Bring your bike inside for safe keeping. Please ask our team where to stash your bike!

🌷 Please arrive early for every class as doors will lock when class begins. We do this for personal safety and to keep your gear safe too! Don’t get locked out - you’ve been warned.

🌷 Bring a bottle! Fill up your bottle with our filtered water if and when you need it. As the weather warms up, staying hydrated is extra important.

A little awareness goes a long way and thank YOU for being part of what makes Iron North feel different!

PART 2 ➡️ In Part 1, we brought up something many people in Ottawa have been feeling this year and last: the pace and pressure of work in our town has changed.

In a city where global events often translate into real workloads, many people are carrying more cognitive load than usual. Even when the hours look the same on paper, the intensity of the workday can feel very different.

As coaches, we pay attention to those shifts because they affect how our community cares for their health.

When life becomes more demanding, the answer isn’t asking people to “push harder.” The answer is designing training environments that are intelligent, efficient, and supportive of the reality people are living in. At Iron North, that means a few things.

It means training sessions that respect people’s time and energy.
Clear structure so you don’t have to think about what to do when you arrive.
Coaching that meets people where they are on any given day.
And an environment where showing up imperfectly still counts.

For many people in this city, their work carries real responsibility. Our role is not to add pressure to that. Our role is to provide a place where people can move well, build strength, and leave a little steadier than when they walked in.

Health doesn’t exist outside of real life. Good coaching acknowledges that.
