🤏🏻 There's something really wonderful about making something that has a form from something that was a little bit of a blob.

🤏🏻 I've taken a couple of pottery classes, community classes and in post-secondary. One of the first things that we were encouraged to do in my university courses was to start each day with a little pinch pot. Come into class, set your things aside, grab a piece of clay, and then start to set the world aside.

🤏🏻 Pinch pots became meditative. There's a whole tradition of Japanese pinch pots, and potters spend their lifetime perfecting their technique. A piece of pottery and ceramics that is so small, filled with technique, expertise, and a calm clear mind.

🍶 Join me October 22nd at Anina's Cafe to paint and pinch your own little pot. We'll clear space with qigong before grabbing a paintbrush or a small piece of clay to pinch pinch pinch something a shape out of a piece of air dry clay, and paint yourself a jar of holding.

💕 No experience needed in ceramics or Qigong! Take time for yourself to Breathe, Move and Make.

🌬️🤸🏼‍♂️🫟 We're back for another season of Breathe, Move, Make! Join me at Anina's Cafe to make mosaic tea lights, clay pinch pots, hand printed wrapping paper, and herb wreaths.

The creative practice will begin with mindful movement. Qigong will move you to a place of openness and play, ready to connect your mind, body, and heart with scissors and glue.

It's the last third of the year and I'm so glad to take us through fall and into winter with cozy crafts for the gifting season. Come along and bring a friend!

Breathe, move, make this August at Anina's Cafe! Come make your own felt treasure pouch. Tuck rocks shells or things for your junk journal into this pocketable pocket. Fill it with tea bags, stickers stickers or tickets bring home and journal with. Learn unique embroidery stitches or go ham with the glue gun.

Qigong movements this month will focus on treasures and things to hold safe. I love this theme for the month of August as we continue to build community - drop ins welcome and encouraged!

So curious! We had seen the turtle popping up and swimming in the late morning and then spent a bit of time swimming in a little lagoon/eddy. When it was time to come out, I nearly put my hand on the shell thinking it was a rock! Thankfully I didn't, and Thankfully some very cool photos and videos were taken instead!

Hi, I'm Rebecca, and this is the story of how a group of pre-Kindergarten kids changed my mind about movement making art.

I used to live in a different city, and in that city for about a year I ran the 2 year old to 5 year old "mommy and me" class in a church basement. I. Loved. It. We would sit in a circle, and everyone had INPUT. We'd sing the hits. London Bridge, Going on a Bear Hunt, The Rattling Bog. The alphabet. (The kids thought it was a joke when we got to the last letter of the alphabet and I would say Zed instead of Zee. Fully. We never got back on track. I never heard the end of it).

We'd always read a story, and it could be something I picked up from the library, a book a kid had brought, or something from the church basement. We'd read the hits. Swimmy. The Snowy Day. Counting on Community. The Last Stop on Market Street. We'd learn about jobs. We'd learn about the impact that we can have on each other. We'd talk about the ways that other people impact us.

And then we would create. We made our own fish to swim in a school like Swimmy. We traced our hands, and made every finger a different person in our community. We walked to the bus stop and talked about the people we saw along the way. We moved our bodies. We made art. We laughed, dreamed and sat with each other when it was hard.

This is some of the most rewarding work I've ever done, and I am so thankful that a Lutheran Church in Chicago gave me my first opportunity to see how movement and art can work in tandem.
