Today, Outlaws N Rattlers Roller Derby pauses to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We reflect on the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools, and we honour the survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home.
As a roller derby league, we pride ourselves on building an inclusive, diverse, and anti-racist community. However, we recognize that true community cannot exist without accountability and active learning. We acknowledge that the land we skate, train, and compete on is the traditional unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan People.
We encourage our skaters, officials, volunteers, and supporters to use this day not just for reflection, but for action. We commit to listening to Indigenous voices, educating ourselves on the 94 Calls to Action, and working to dismantle systemic racism within sports and our wider community.
Today and every day, we stand in solidarity. Every Child Matters 🧡🧡🛼🛼
