Last weekend, the Penticton Tennis Club honoured our tennis history by holding the annual "Annesley Cup Women’s Doubles Tournament". The trophy dates back to 1932 and originated with the Kelowna Lawn and Tennis Club with the cup transferring to Penticton a number of decades ago.
The trophy features the names of well known Penticton tennis players such as Leah and Sharon Brownell, daughter and wife of renowned teacher and coach Bob Brownell, Helena Konanz, our current MP, Dianne Symonds, Marion Ogden, and her daughter Meryl Ogden, Leslie Scott (Bumby) along with current members Cher Watkins and Janice Taylor.
This year’s 2 day round robin event was held on May 16th and 17th and featured teams from Kamloops, Summerland, Vancouver and Penticton. Thanks to Kersten Grant for organizing, Rusty Anchor Restaurant for hosting our Saturday afternoon social, and Red Rooster Winery for once again providing us with some lovely prizes.
