Back for another season, The Shooting Stars! Runner's Life's Youth Run Group!
Our Mission:
Our goal is to introduce the joy of running to youth in a safe, enjoyable atmosphere appropriate for their age. The club will be for youth, ages 7-13 of all abilities, no fitness background or running experience necessary. The beauty of running is it's diversity and we want to introduce that to the next generation of runners. Whether the child wants to push their limits or simply enjoy being outdoors with other like minded kids, we will nurture them with the right tools so they can flourish at their own rate and ambition. Making little Champions isn't our goal, our goal is to teach kids about running, sport, dedication and goal setting and how it can be fun and rewarding, especially in a social environment. The little Champion part is their choice.
Training:
The Shooting Stars will meet at 5:30pm on Wednesday's starting Sept 10th at Jackson Park, Pagoda Bridge (Parkhill & Fairbairn) Parking is available. We will also meet at Nichol's Oval and St. Peter's track, notice will be given for those practices. Practice will last 60-70min and will include a proper warm up, drills and technical work, stretching, an age appropriate workout and a cool down. Workouts are set and supervised by:
Dave Dame, a certified, experienced coach that will ensure workouts are fun and motivating while still challenging at an appropriate level for each child.
Parents are welcome to volunteer coach. If you coach your kid(s) are in the program for free! Please contact Dave if you'd like to volunteer coach, [email protected] or 705-876-8960.
Your child's attendance at every practice isn't mandatory but like anything, the more you put into it the more you'll get out.
Events & Races:
Your child will be doing X-Country at school and we will recommend a few other local tune up races that you can opt in/out depending on your schedule. Racing is part of the club but not the focus, we will focus on the journey of being a runner and if racing is a part of it for your child so be it.
Schedule & Fees:
The club will run from 5:30pm-6:30pm Starting Wed. Sept 10th for 5 weeks. $70 for the season.
10% discount to any families with multiple children.
Sign up online, https://runnerslifetraininggroups.itsyourrace.com/register/ use promo code "youth" to get the 10% discount on multiple kids entries. "coach" gets you a free entry for your child if you're available to volunteer coach.

Rack your bike, set up your transition area. Volunteers will help you and the transition zone will open and close throughout the day, please respect when it's closed.
Swim:
Your child will be able to touch throughout the whole swim. Lots of volunteers will help them. Parents aren't allowed to assist their child in the race, we want to keep things fair for everyone. Lifejackets, pool noodles, water wings, puddle jumpers are allowed.
If the beach is red flagged for ecoli we continue with event as planned. If you're not comfortable having your child swim you we will keep them on the beach until the last swimmer exits and then they can participate in the bike and run.
If your kid wants to hit the beach after their race it's no problem, please keep them off to the side, out of the swim race area.
Transition:
Lots of volunteers to help your child, you're in charge of taking pictures.
Bike:
All bike courses are closed to traffic. All bike courses are 1 lap except:
8-9: 2 laps
10-11: 4 laps
Please ensure your child's bike is mechanically sound and the tires are pumped up.
Run:
Follow the course, lots of volunteers will help.
Other:
Public washrooms available on site. Bottle fill station available in the washrooms.
Post Race:
Post race meals provided for all kids. Lots of kids activities including: Plinko, Co****le, Kids Play area, Face painting not to mention the play structure and beach.
Awards for top 3 boys & girls in each age group will be awarded.
Pro Tips:
Race number has to be pinned (pins provided) to the front of the athlete so a fitted outfit (bathing suit fit) that they can swim/bike/run in is advised. Putting on a shirt after the swim takes a lot of time and hassle.
For younger kids water shoes for the whole event is advised so they don't have to mess around with shoes. Laces are a hassle so if possible pre-tie the shoes and practice slipping them on, you might have to have them a bit loose.
Practice clipping/unclipping your helmet. Volunteers will certainly help with this but if they can do it a little on their own it's helpful.
Obviously after their race the kids will need to recover, we highly recommend Normatech compression boots available for only $1050.00 at Runner's Life ;)
