Cole Ledson Ready For Final Push Towards First Career Ontario Legends Series Championship

COOKSTOWN, ON - A full season of pursuing his first ever Legends championship will come to an end tomorrow afternoon for rising star Cole Ledson.

The younger brother of 3-time series titlist Nick Ledson will enter the season finale a mere 5-points behind championship rival Matt Haufe in the race for the 2016 championship.

"I've managed to try and keep the whole points race out of my head all season, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't feeling the nerves tonight," admits Ledson. "We've just worked so hard for this. My guys have given me great cars every single week - I really want to reward their hard work"

The pair have traded podium finishes all season long, with each competitor managing a pair of feature victories throughout the course of their respective breakout seasons.

When asked his thoughts on Haufe's chances of walking out of the Autumn Colours Classic as series champion, Ledson insists he's not paying much attention to the comings and goings of his opposition.

"I can't control what Matt does - so I'm not going to worry about it," says the rising star flatly. "All I can do is take care of my car and make sure that I'm putting myself in the right situations and make the right decisions"

"That's my job tomorrow. We've been solid all year - but tomorrow is the day that really matters"

After a fantastic season thus far, Ledson can't help but express his gratitude for what's already come his way in 2016 - regardless of how the standings read at the end of Sunday's event.

"This whole season has been an awesome experience," smiles Ledson. "I've come a long way, and I'm proud of what we've accomplished as a team this year"

"No matter how tomorrow ends, we've had a fantastic 2016. I want to win this championship more than anything else in the world, but even if tomorrow doesn't end the way we want it to we're going to walk out with our chin up"

And, on the topic of strategy for Sunday's race, Ledson explains his goal is to keep things as simple as possible.

"We're coming out to hit all of our marks, keep our car at the front and keep Matt in our mirror," says the championship hopeful. "I just don't want to overthink things. The simpler we can keep our strategy, the better off we're going to be."

Nick Ledson Poised For Final Ontario Legends Series Start of ‘16

COOKSTOWN, ON – When multi-time Legends winner Nick Ledson takes the green on Sunday evening at Peterborough Speedway, it will mark his first career appearance at the speedway’s heralded Autumn Colours Classic. With a number of series wins and championships already to his credit, when ‘the Classic’ was added to the tour schedule in early 2016, Ledson knew he had a new goal to shoot for.

"We've had an amazing five years running with this series, and we’ve accomplished a lot, but this weekend is something entirely new for us to aim for" remarks Ledson. "This weekend is a huge moment for the tour, and I want to make sure I turn in a performance that our team can be proud of. This is one that people are going to remember for a long time”

Although his ups and downs have been well documented throughout the 2016 campaign, Ledson has still accrued two wins in addition to seven podiums and enters this weekend’s event as a viable threat to earn his first ever Autumn Colours Classic title.

"There have been a few weekends that have been pretty far from a dream come true this season," laughs the Cookstown, ON driver, "but, I still have complete confidence in our program. There haven't been many moments in which we weren't in the mix this year. Even when things haven't ended the way we've wanted them to, we've had good cars that can run with anyone on this roster"

For Ledson, a longtime Peterborough regular, having the Legends included as part of Ontario’s Crown Jewel event makes the final round of the series a ‘must win’ contest.

"I've wanted to race 'the Classic' for just about as long as I've been going to Peterborough," says Ledson. "Finally getting the Legends on the card is a huge deal. Don't get me wrong, we want to win every single race that we enter, but we want to win this one more than I can explain. This is a Crown Jewel weekend. Every team in every division understands what that means"

When asked his plans for the 2017 season, Ledson insists it’s far too early to begin speculation on where – and what – his team will be racing when the time comes. Instead, the three-time champion is choosing to focus his energy on crafting a perfect performance at Peterborough this Saturday & Sunday.

"It's way too early to start narrowing down where we're going to be next season - but I'm excited for the ride," admits Ledson. "Every year around this time people start asking us what our plans for the following year are. Right now, we have nothing set in stone, so we’ll just see where we end up and when”

"At this moment, all we're focused on is winning Peterborough," continues the well-spoken standout. "Once you start looking ahead, you lose focus in a hurry. We have all off-season to talk about the off-season. For now, all I can think about is winning 'the Classic'."

“I just want to keep improving,” says Ledson. “My last two races have been my strongest all season, but I know I can be better. The points are so tight right now that neither of us can make a mistake. We know Matt is right on our tail, so we need a strong night on Saturday”

“I’m happy with how far we’ve come this season,” adds the championship hopeful. “This has been a year where everything has really started to click for me. Everything makes sense now more than ever. It’s getting easier to make the right decisions and to put the car in the right places. It feels more natural now, hopefully we can keep our streak rolling and get closer to this championship.”
