Jacqueline's School of Dance Dancing is the loftiest, the most moving, the most beautiful of the arts, because it is not mere translation or abstraction from life; it is life itself.

JSOD has been an established dance studio in the Durham region since 1984. Our current location offers four bright, spacious, and climate controlled studios that operate seven days a week. Our instructors are fully qualified members of the BATD (British Association of Teachers of Dancing). They are professionals who continually educate themselves with new, innovative styles and techniques. We offer unsurpassed instruction in ballet, pointe, acro, jazz, tap, contemporary, musical theatre, hip hop, and lyrical, focusing on technique, creativity, and musicality. Classes are organized according to age and experience on both recreational and competitive levels. Our Twinkle Toes dancers start as young as three years old while there seems to be no limit to the ages of our adult dancers. JSOD's success is due to the fact that we treat each and every one of our dancers and their families equally and enthusiastically. We recognize that our students are eager to learn dance skills and technique while at the same time remembering that everyone wants to have fun and feel good about themselves. JSOD has built a reputation as being a "home away from home" for our dancers. We are very proud of the successes of our annual spring Showcase "Dreams Do Come True", that marks of excellence during our BATD student examinations and the achievements of our Competitive and Elite dance teams that travel and perform across Ontario as well as internationally. From Twinkle Toes to the most advanced teens and adults, all students are encouraged to reach their highest potential and achieve excellence every step of the way.

Maybe this is one of the greatest gifts we can give our dancers.

Not just teaching them the steps, the technique or how to perform—but teaching them to believe in themselves before there is proof that they should.

To dream bigger.
To take up space.
To work for what they want.
To fall down, get back up and try again.
To discover just how capable they really are.

After all these years of teaching, I know I’m not just training dancers. I’m helping raise strong, confident young women and men.

And if even a little piece of that belief stays with them long after they leave the dance floor… then I’ve done my job. 💗

This amazing group brings so much talent, creativity, knowledge and heart into our studio every single day. Whether they’re inspiring dancers in the classroom, creating on stage, keeping everything running behind the scenes (or doing a little bit of ALL of it! 😅), we are so lucky to have each of them as part of our JSOD family.

Today we celebrate the incredible teacher, choreographer, mentor, and friend who pours her heart into everything she does. Your creativity knows no bounds, and the magic you create in the studio inspires every dancer lucky enough to learn from you.
