July 2025 Meanderings and Mishaps Pt 21 - Horseshoe Lk Rec Site.
We arrived late morning and got set up before exploring. We've camped at a lot of cool places but this one may be my new favorite! There was a herd of free-range cattle grazing throughout the site and I loved it! The mishap this time was a mouse in the RPod...a couple mouse traps purchased from the general store at the nearby Ft. Steele Resort solved that issue.

July 2025 Meanderings and Mishaps Pt 20 - Hosmer Mine Historical Site.
On the way to our next camp spot, we stopped to check out this place. It was owned and operated by Canadian Pacific Railway and its coal production ran from 1908 to 1914. There are a few trails to take to see the different mine areas, most uphill and nature has reclaimed a lot of the area. My knees weren't up to the 1 km uphill walk to the portals so while Tom did that, I checked out the lower buildings (the Headquarters, I think). And lol, the mishap here was the 20+ point turn Tom had to make to turn the trailer around in the small parking area.

July 2025 Meanderings and Mishaps Pt 19 - Fernie, BC.
After our tour of Sparwood, we headed 30km down the highway to visit Fernie. As usual at new places, our first stop was the visitor center, and then a drive through town.

July 2025 Meanderings and Mishaps Pt 18 - Sparwood Walking Tour.
Sparwood, BC is a pretty town. Unlike the town we live in, I saw clean streets with no evidence of vandalism on buildings or outdoor displays, and no obvious street people doing drugs in plain sight. We picked up a few supplies and did the walking tour. LOL... the "mishap" here was my wearing out knees :) The left one was swollen and very sore, but I picked up a knee support at a pharmacy and that made mobility a whole lot easier and less painful; just wish I'd have got it before the walking tour!

July 2025 Meanderings and Mishaps Pt 17 - Sparwood Museum.
As we usually do, we used our campground (Mtn. Shadows) as basecamp for our explorations. We headed into Sparwood, BC (our first time visiting there) on a cloudy morning. We had just entered the museum (admission by donation) when the sky opened up and a huge downpour hit, complete with building-shaking thunder. There must've been lightning nearby because the museum experienced a brief power outtage. Although this museum was tiny, it had some decent displays and a lot of historical info covering a lot of topics.

July 2025 Meanderings and Mishaps Pt 16 - Mountain Shadows Campground.
After 2 weeks in Alberta, we were finally back in BC! Mountain Shadows Campground (Sparwood, BC) was just off the highway. While there was about 30 yards of treed space separating the campground from the highway, some road noise was still evident (even from the 3rd loop spots that were farthest away). We live on a very busy street so road noise to me is much like white noise. We used this campground as base camp for our adventures in the area. This place offers free firewood with camp fees, and the washroom/shower buildings were very clean and very nice (shower facilities also included in camp fee)! Bonus for me (co-pilot), the office had not only a small stock of typically-needed supplies, but also a small selection of free books!

July 2025 Meanderings and Mishaps Pt 15 - Coleman Museum.
We were only about a half hour from our next camp spot so we stopped in Coleman, Alberta to check out their museum. So very much to see there; well worth the visit!
Also, I forgot to include our latest mishap in last few posts so here it is: I'd woke stupid early one day and saw the fridge lights flashing. Fridge had quit working on propane but was ok on battery (not the 1st time we've experienced that). Despite the in-use tank still being in the green, Tom switched to the other tank and all was well. LOL, later in the trip, we switched back to the 1st tank and had no issues. Weird!
