This past weekend we held our annual Celis Academy Interschool Tournament! We are so proud of all our students for their hard work, positivity, and dedication.
We also want to give a massive thank you to the Shaolin Dragon Kenpo School for joining us on the mats. We’re incredibly excited to continue growing and competing together at future events!

Here are some sparring action shots from the Celis Academy Interschool Tournament! Congratulations everyone!
For the past 10 years, Miss Flaman has been an instructor at the Celis Taekwondo Academy but her journey here began long before that. She first stepped onto the mats at just 9 years old, and has grown into a dedicated leader and a Second Degree Black Belt.
With a strong competitive background in both sparring and patterns, she brings technical skill, discipline, and experience to every class she teaches. But what sets her apart is her ability to meet students exactly where they are, whether it’s their very first class or they’re preparing for their next big competition.
When you walk through our doors, you’ll be greeted by her welcoming smile and positive energy. Her goal every class is to make sure the student have a good work out, learn something new and have lots of fun!
We’re incredibly proud to have her shaping the next generation of martial artists.

Hey Celis Team, it's Leadership Week for Black Belt Club. Our new word for the next 6 weeks is Self-Control.

2. Self-Control Essay (Upcoming)
Your essays for our new word are due no later than June 14th!
Here are some questions that can help you with your essay:
- Why is it important to control your emotions (like anger or fear) during a self defence situation?
- How do you practise self-control when sparring or working with a partner at the academy?
- Can you describe a time you used self-control to walk away from a conflict instead of escalating it?

Introducing… Mr Volfin!
Mr. Volfin has been a student at the Celis Academy for almost 10 years and has been an instructor for 2 years.
Throughout the years, Yonaton has had some incredible accomplishments. He placed 1st in Patterns, Sparring AND Team Sparring in the Pan-Americans in Puerto Rico in 2024. He also represented Team Canada at the 2025 ITF World Championships in Italy.
In the 2 years of instructing, Yonaton has helped our students learn, grow, and have lots of fun. He always ensures the students give every class their all, no matter what.
Yonaton leads by example whenever he steps on the mat whether it's for his students, teammates or competitors. We are lucky to have Yonaton at the Celis Academy as a teammate, and an instructor.
