‼️‼️Our last spotlight of the week is Saskatchewan’s own Kenzie Newman. She proudly represented Canada this summer at the 2025 WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup.
Kenzie made her mark early in the tournament, earning the win on the mound in Canada’s first victory over Singapore. She pitched five dominant innings, allowing just one hit and no runs, while also contributing offensively with two hits and an RBI.
Kenzie continued to show her resilience and team-first attitude throughout the tournament, helping Canada go undefeated in the Placement Round and finish strong on the international stage.
Her performance demonstrates the talent, poise, and leadership that Saskatchewan athletes continue to bring to the national stage. Congratulations, Kenzie! 👏🥎

🥎 Game 5 vs. Newfoundland
Top of 1 – Gaige Epp on the mound throwing to Rayn Ray, and he comes out firing with 3 straight K’s! After one, it’s a scoreless game.
In the 2nd, Roberts slap bunts his way on, Epp singles to move him to 3rd, but we can’t cash in. After two complete, it’s still 0–0.
Bottom 3 – NL finds some hits and plates 3 runs. We head to the 4th down 0–3.
Top 4 – Poitras walks to lead off, Roberts bangs a ground-rule double, and Epp works a walk to load the bases. Then Cook clears them all with a GRAND SLAM! We jump ahead 4–3. We shut NL down quickly in the bottom half to hold the lead.
5th inning – scoreless on both sides.
Bottom 6 – Newfoundland ties it up 4–4.
Top 7 – Nash blasts a leadoff HOME RUN! Hryuik follows with a triple, Durham drives him in with a sac fly, Ray singles, Poitras moves the runner over, and we score on a wild pitch. Kessler walks, advances to 2nd on another wild pitch, and Roberts rips an RBI single up the middle.
Bottom 7 – NL scratches one across, but we lock it down for an 8–5 win! Incredible battle back by the guys to seal it.
🥎 Tournament record: 3–2

3/4 game VS Quebec
Emma Frisky on the mound throwing to Ashlyn Chatfield. Quebec came out swinging in the 1st, taking advantage of a couple errors to score 2 before Emma shut things down. In our half, Amundson singled and Banerd walked, but we couldn’t cash them in. 0-2.
Emma held Quebec scoreless in the 2nd, and we kept making good contact but right to their defence. Quebec added another run in the 3rd, but we answered back! Edmands led off with a hit, Frisky reached, and a double steal put runners on 3rd and 2nd. Amundson’s bunt loaded the bases, and Colborn ripped a grounder down the line to score all three! 3-3.
Quebec put up 4 runs in the 4th to pull ahead. We kept hitting the ball hard but couldn’t find the gaps. 7-3. In the 5th, more errors cost us, but we answered with two runs of our own. 9-5.
Ava Unser entered in the 6th and a great 4-6-3 double play slowed Quebec, but they added another. In the 7th, Ireland Trevarthen took over, and despite loading the bases with a walk and two hits, we pushed across just one. Final: 12-6.
We’re back at it tomorrow at 11:00am for placement!
