The Richmond Hill Pickleball Advocacy Group has also invited municipal election candidates, incumbent councillors, and the Mayor to meet with the pickleball community and hear directly from residents about the future of pickleball and recreation in Richmond Hill.

This is your opportunity to celebrate the game we all love, meet fellow players, ask questions, share your ideas, and help shape the future of pickleball in our city.

Richmond Hill Pickleball is Heading to Aurora...

After hearing from our members through our recent survey, Richmond Hill Pickleball Club is launching two new indoor leagues at Pickleplex Aurora this June.

Why?

Because demand for pickleball in Richmond Hill continues to far exceed available court space.

For years, members have faced:
• Long waiting lists for programs
• Limited indoor opportunities
• Long wait times at outdoor courts
• Too few dedicated courts for one of the largest pickleball communities in York Region

The reality is that many Richmond Hill players are already traveling outside the city to find places to play. Rather than waiting for more courts to arrive, we have decided to test a new indoor option for our members.

This June, we will be running:

Tuesday Night A/B League (2.75+)
Thursday Night C Division League (2.25–2.74)

These are pilot programs with limited spots available, and if participation is strong, we hope to expand indoor programming throughout the summer and into the fall.

We would much rather be running these programs in Richmond Hill. Unfortunately, the court shortages and lack of indoor facilities mean we need to look beyond our borders to meet member demand.

The message from our members was clear: people want more places to play, and they're willing to travel to get it.

Let's hope Richmond Hill eventually catches up.

✨ Richmond Green Pickleball Plan – Let’s Get It Right

The City is planning a 12-court pickleball hub at Richmond Green — a great step forward for our community 👏

But to make this truly successful, there are a few important things to consider:

• Pickleball doesn’t just happen — it’s built through clubs, organized play, and community
• Clubs are what bring new players into the game and keep people engaged
• Without that structure, courts alone don’t create a thriving environment

Right now, there’s an opportunity to:
• Recognize the role of the pickleball community and clubs
• Plan for enough courts (indoor and outdoor) to meet demand
• Build something that works not just on paper — but in real life

Other municipalities are already feeling the pressure:
• Memberships being capped
• Limited access due to too few courts

We have a chance to avoid that — but it starts with getting the plan right.

The proposed revitalization of Richmond Green will maintain the park as the City’s largest outdoor destination for sports and events, while introducing environmentally-friendly landscaping that’s designed to thrive naturally over time. The plan also includes enhancements to connectivity within the park, new recreational features and improving canopy cover and shade.
