RHK may be closed for now but a few have kept up their training and successfully graded for their Sho-dan rank in July. Today they received their certificates and their crisp new black belts.

Congratulations to Zev, Siavash, Carrie and Amit (who was unable to attend so Vijay stood/knelt in his place). This is but another stop on your journey. Keep going!! 🥋

80 years ago today (October 14th) Shane Yukio Higashi was born in Chemanius, British Columbia. Who knew back then the impact that the martial arts would have on his life, or his impact on it?

A living Grandmaster - earning the rank of 10th Dan and the title of "Hanshi" - Sensei Higashi has achieved the pinnacle of Chito-Ryu Karate-Do, and has played (and continues to play) a tremendous role in its development and expansion across Canada and around the world.

Happy Birthday Sensei!! 🥋

Leveraging kicks and punches.

Karate is an individual development, take the time to review and practice with intent. Where can you adjust or improve.

If you have any physical limitations, an injury or other, you have to consider that as you do your techniques, but continue to look for ways and areas to improve. If you can’t kick the head, practice at the knee, work on the basics even if they are modified.

“the ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory or defeat but the perfection of ones character”
