It is with great sadness and deep appreciation that we announce the passing of Coach Scott Long. Scott passed away on August 16th, 2025, and while we have held this news close out of respect for his family's wishes during this private time of grief, we now share it with the broader community that knew and loved him.
From his early years in the Vancouver Minor Hockey League, through his time at Killarney Secondary, and later in adult leagues, hockey was a constant thread throughout Scott's life.
As his sons grew, Scott naturally stepped into coaching with Seafair and the Richmond Jets, where he made a lasting mark on countless players and families. He began his coaching journey in 2006 with Seafair and returned to the bench nearly every year until coaching his final season in 2024 with the Richmond Jets. Throughout that career, he was a finalist for Coach of the Year more than once. Few things brought Scott more joy than watching players grow — not only as hockey players, but as people — throughout the course of a season.
When Scott wasn't on the ice, he was still thinking about the game and the community around it: sketching out plays, and lending a hand wherever it was needed. We want to thank Scott for volunteering his truck to the Richmond Jets float in the Steveston Salmon Festival, and for volunteering to coach the 2024 PCAHA U-21 Scholarship Tournament.
Scott's legacy lives on in the many young lives he influenced, the teams he supported, and the community he cared for so deeply. He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the love he poured into every team he coached.
