We have been very busy lately with both showroom traffic and service work as the sunny weather finally arrives ☀️🚲
We are seeing many new riders coming in looking for their first e-bike or upgrading for the summer season. We currently have lots of units on the floor ready for viewing and test rides, including commuter, fat tire, folding, cargo, and step-through models.
Our service department has also been extremely active these past few weeks. We are seeing more online-purchased bikes and brands with limited local support coming through the shop for diagnostics, repairs, tune-ups, and electrical work. Our team has been working overtime to keep turnaround times moving as quickly as possible while making sure repairs are done properly and safely.
Thank you again to everyone for the continued support and patience during the busy season.
Looks like we have a hot few weeks ahead — stay hydrated, enjoy the sunshine, and ride safe everyone ☀️

🚲⚠️ BIKE SMART. STAY LEGAL. ⚠️🚲
We’ve been seeing an increasing number of crashes and dangerous situations involving young children riding e-scooters, electric dirt bikes, and high-powered electric vehicles around Richmond, Vancouver, Surrey, and Metro Vancouver.
This post is not about judging riders or parents. The purpose is education and safety.
As riders, parents, and local businesses, we all share the responsibility to understand the laws, safety requirements, and where certain vehicles are legally allowed to operate.
Many people do not realize:
• Standard legal e-bikes in BC are limited to 500W and 32 km/h
• Legal e-bikes must have fully operable pedals
• Electric dirt bikes and mini motorcycles are NOT legal on public roads or bike lanes
• Some e-scooters are only allowed in pilot project communities
• Safety gear, rider age, visibility, and proper training matter more than people think
At Richmond eBike, we support safe and responsible riding for everyone. Education is important as electric mobility continues growing across BC.
Please take a moment to review the RCMP safety chart below and share it with friends and family.
Stay safe. Ride responsibly. Protect our community. 🙏

Most riders think the battery or motor is the problem… but many e-bike failures actually come from the controller, display, or wiring harness. 🔧⚡
At Richmond eBike, we regularly diagnose:
✔ Controller failures
✔ Display communication errors
✔ Burnt connectors
✔ Water-damaged wiring harnesses
✔ Random shutdowns
✔ Throttle & PAS issues
One thing we see more and more in Metro Vancouver:
Many online e-bikes become very difficult (and expensive) to repair after a few years because replacement electrical parts are no longer available — or the display, controller, and wiring harness are no longer compatible.
That’s one reason buying local matters.
For locally supported bikes, many repairs can become simple plug-and-play replacements instead of replacing the entire electrical system. That means:
✅ Faster repair turnaround
✅ Lower labour costs
✅ Easier access to replacement parts
✅ Better long-term support
We service many brands including online and marketplace e-bikes across Richmond, Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Langley, and Metro Vancouver.
If your e-bike:
⚠ Randomly shuts off
⚠ Shows error codes
⚠ Loses power uphill
⚠ Has throttle or PAS issues
⚠ Won’t turn on
…it may not be the battery at all.

⚡ What goes on behind the scenes at Richmond eBike
Not every repair is simple.
Some bikes come in with hidden issues — motor damage, wiring faults, worn drivetrains, or DIY fixes gone wrong.
This is the part most people don’t see:
✔️ Motor tear-downs and internal inspections
✔️ Electrical diagnostics and controller repairs
✔️ Full system rebuilds
✔️ Custom solutions when standard parts don’t exist
It’s not just about getting a bike running again —
it’s about making sure it’s safe, reliable, and built to last.
If your e-bike isn’t feeling right, there’s usually a reason.
We’ll find it 👍

Ever replaced your chain… and your bike still skips? 🤔
There’s a reason for that.
On most e-bikes, the chain, cassette, and drivetrain don’t wear separately — they wear **together**.
We see this every day in the shop.
A simple chain replacement turns into a full drivetrain repair because the wear was already there.
👉 From what we see:
• Replace your chain around 2,000–3,000 km → saves your drivetrain
• Wait too long → full system wear around 5,000–8,000 km
Especially on e-bikes with higher torque, this happens faster than most riders expect.
We put together a simple guide explaining why this happens and how to avoid it 👇
https://richmondebike.com/blogs/news/why-replacing-your-chain-often-means-replacing-the-whole-drivetrain
If your bike is skipping, making noise, or not shifting right — don’t wait.
It’s usually cheaper to fix early.

Why Replacing Your Chain Often Means Replacing the Whole Drivetrain
If you have ever come in for a simple chain replacement and we tell you that you may also need a cassette, freewheel, or derailleur, it can sound surprising at first. But the truth is simple: your drivetrain is a system, not just a group of separate parts. When one part wears out, the others usually...

Thinking about getting a fat tire e-bike?
A lot of riders come in asking about them — and honestly, they’re great… but not always the best choice for everyone.
In Vancouver and Richmond, we see a mix of:
✔ wet roads
✔ rough pavement
✔ bridge climbs
✔ daily commuting
Fat tire bikes can give you more comfort and grip — but they’re also heavier and not always the most efficient for everyday riding.
We put together a quick guide based on what we actually see in-store and in our service shop 👇

We’ve had this world map up in the shop since our renovation last year… and it’s slowly filling up ❤️
Every pin tells a story — where you’re from, where you’ve been, or somewhere special to you.
It’s been really cool seeing how many different places our customers come from. Makes the shop feel a little more connected to the world 🌍
If you’re stopping by, take a second to find your hometown and add a pin.
We’d love to see where everyone’s from.

⚠️ Getting an e-bike? Make sure it’s legal in BC.
We’re seeing more riders confused about:
• 32km/h limits
• Throttle rules
• Where you can ride
• What police are actually enforcing
We put together a simple BC e-bike law guide here:
https://richmondebike.com/blogs/news/e-bike-laws-canada-bc
If you already own an e-bike and aren’t sure it’s compliant, bring it by — we’ll tell you straight.
Better to check now than get stopped later.
