🏁 IMPORTANT EVENT UPDATE 🏁

After careful consideration, the 2026 St. Albert Soap Box Derby scheduled for Saturday, June 20 has been cancelled due to forecasted severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, strong winds, cold temperatures, and the potential for lightning.

The safety of our racers, volunteers, spectators, and sponsors is our top priority. While this decision is incredibly disappointing, especially for the racers who have spent months preparing for race day, we believe it is the right one.

This marks the first weather-related cancellation in the history of the St. Albert Soap Box Derby. Unfortunately, rescheduling is not possible. Participants will receive a 50% credit of their registration fee toward the 2027 event.

Thank you to all our racers, families, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who helped make the 2026 season possible. Your enthusiasm and dedication continue to make this event special.

We look forward to seeing everyone back on the hill in 2027. ❤️🏁

Good Evening Racers, Families, and Sponsors

Unfortunately, Saturday’s Soap Box Racing event has been cancelled.

The current forecast calls for 100% rain, with 20-30 mm expected, temperatures around 10°C, along with wind >20kph and potential lightning.
These conditions create significant safety risks for the track, racers, volunteers, public and our power systems.

This was an incredibly difficult decision. As Head Sponsor of the St. Albert Soap Box Derby, I am extremely proud of all the racers, volunteers, and sponsors who have contributed to making the 2026 event possible. The level of effort and support that goes into this event each year is remarkable.

Unfortunately, rescheduling is not an option.

In the history of the Soap Box Derby, we have never had to cancel before, which makes this especially disappointing. Soapbox will offer a 50% credit of your $35 registration fee towards registration in 2027.

We are truly sorry—most of all for the racers who have been looking forward to this day for months.

We look forward to seeing everyone next year under better conditions.

Whether you're helping with racer check-in, course marshalling, staging, or general event support, your time and effort make a huge difference. No experience is necessary. We'll provide the training and guidance you need.

🔧🏁 Hands on My Cart Build Session – June 6, 2026 🏁🔧

Need some help getting your Soapbox Derby cart race-ready? Bring your cart to our Build HQ Garage for a fun, hands-on morning with experienced volunteer builders and racers.

Whether you need help with steering setup, toe-in adjustments, operational feedback, or have questions about your build, our team will be there to help. Since starting in 2024, these sessions have become a great opportunity to learn, share ideas, and see some creative cart designs in progress.

📍 Location provided with RSVP

This session is best suited for carts that are built but may still need final adjustments, body work, paint, or fine-tuning before race day.

Builders and racers are welcome! Please RSVP so we can accommodate as many participants as possible. Location details will be sent the week before the event.

🚗💨 Reminder for all 2026 Soapbox Derby racers!

Registration for the 2026 Soapbox Derby closes on May 31. We currently have 115 racers registered and are excited to see another great year of racing!

Waiver deadline is also May 31. Returning racers who have already attended a cart inspection and driver orientation in previous years, and have made no changes to their cart, may apply for a waiver and will not be required to attend the June 13 inspection/orientation session.

Don't wait! complete your registration or waiver application before the end of the day!
