A HUGE thank you to the forestry department for taking care of this large fallen tree at hole 2.
This year our city has suffered so many devastating storms. Mayor and city crews are always ready to respond. Our club works diligently with the city crews to keep the park beautiful and safe for everyone.
This tree was only down a few days, and once we alerted the forestry department someone was dispatched straight away. We appreciate you!!!
Jackie Lindal always helps our concerns to be heard and is an amazing liaison between our club and the city.

Congratulations to Alice Petheram for winning this week's pie hole CTP! Alice's awesome drive on hole 8 won her a Pecan Pie to share with her family!
Charlie was happy to see his mama win something he can share in too

This Monday, the Mermaids hosted Toronto FPO Kat Johnson at Centennial Gardens in St. Catharines. Kat drove in for the evening to help us improve our backhand distance, forehand form and even helped us with putting accuracy too. The girls and women in attendance all benefited greatly from Kat's expertise and tutelage. We were all able to take away tips and information to improve our game.
Despite the variety of ages and ability levels in attendance, Kat was able to individually assist each of us to improve key aspects of our form. We also learned a bit more about Kastaplast discs and had an opportunity to purchase some new plastic! Everyone was so thankful for this opportunity to learn on our home course. Nothing is more helpful than a woman-led clinic in a familiar and supportive space

Have you had a chance to throw with Arielle Zamdvaiz ?
🧜♀️The Mermaids have been fortunate to host this upcoming athlete at our Canadian Women's Event in May, the Sirens on the Fairways tournament in June and at one of our Monday Ladies League nights too. We were so happy to witness her first birdie at Centennial Gardens quickly followed by her first sanctioned PDGA win in FA4 at the Yeet in the Heat tournament in Caledonia!
Keep your 👀 on this rising 🌟
Keep up the great work, Arielle 💪 🥰 We can't wait to throw with you again soon! 🥏

🚨spotlight on: Ace Places!
What's an Ace Place?
An ace place is typically a 9-hole beginner friendly course wherein the baskets are placed in closer proximity to tee pads than at that of a regular course. You can expect distances of 80 to roughly 200 feet.
Why make a small and short course?
This makes the sport more accessible and more fun. Beginning players can make pars and more advanced players can get birdies or aces. A positive experience is more likely to bring people back to the course than a high score, spending a lot of time looking for your disc or possibly losing discs in wood or water hazards.
Even children, seniors and people with limited mobility can enjoy disc golf and these smaller courses and they help to broaden the player base too. They're also a great use of a small space- not all municipalities has room for a championship-length course.
Can they really be enjoyed by higher skilled players too?
Even elite players spend time on short courses to develop more technical shots, accuracy, decision making, shot shaping, disc selection and for putting practice.
No more proof needed, check out the 🧜♀️ mermaids most recent trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake's Ace Place. Thank you TinLid Disc Golf for bringing this Ace Place to Niagara!

There is a lot of terminology and rules to disc golf and it can be a bit overwhelming (especially for beginners). In our club, we like to use pie to help new golfers learn. 🥧 😋
Some events or leagues offer an opportunity for players to win a CTP prize. CTP stands for Closest To the Pin... or in our club... Closest To the PIE! 😆
Each week a new hole is selected. Competitors have one chance, on their first throw to be the closest disc to the basket on our "pie hole". The winner gets a pie! No hole will be repeated and no pie flavour will be duplicated!
Week #1 pie winner (hole 6) was Tasha Dowd ☺️ Her beautiful forehand drive won her a sour cherry pie. The winner can always choose to take their victory pie home to consume in one sitting or over the course of several days... but what's better than sharing pie with your besties in the course parking lot?!
A huge thank you to Kristie Litt for introducing us to the Hamilton Meat Pie Co. Their crust is so flakey and their filling so divine that you'll probably never enjoy another pie again after sampling their pies.
This week's pie hole is #12... who will be victorious? And will they share??? 🤔

We FINALLY hosted a women's event with the most perfect weather! 💪
Sunday, June 28th the mermaids took over the fairways at Centennial Gardens 🧜♀️. 17 women battled out 2 rounds, but from the sound of things you'd swear there was an entire army on the course! We had some spectators and a few new women to the club come out to see what tournaments are all about. This event brought women from Jarvis, Hamilton, Caledonia, Ottawa, Niagara Falls, Burlington, Buffalo and Rochester NY.
Huge thanks to Chris Kotyk for CO-Td'ing the event and also assisting with CTP's and on site vending. It's always great to have the crew from Primal Disc Golf on site. Also thanks to Adam Chainey for grabbing some great shots of all the ladies in action. We refueled at lunch with great catering delivered right to the park from Flavour Fuel too!
CTP winners: FA 60/65/75 Linda Yap, FA2 Brenda Cox, FA3/50/55 Tasha Dowd, FA4 Alice Petheram
Divisional winners: FPO Janet Cranshaw, FA75 Linda Thompson, FA65 Linda Yap, FA60 Berenice Garland, FA55 Sherry Thompson, FA50 Audrey Lopez, FA40 Andréa Michaud, FA2 Brenda Cox, FA3 Tasha Dowd, FA4 Juanita Mallabar 👏👏👏
Huge thank you to the City of St. Catharines for trimming up the fairways and making the course so beautiful. The city crews worked throughout the day emptying garbages and keeping the areas safe. Jackie Lindal also ensured we had a washroom for this PDGA sanctioned event. We couldn't enjoy these events without the great support from our city and officials.
Thanks to all the competitors for a wonderfully fun day in the park! A big congratulations to all our winners 🥇 and we hope to host another event again soon! .🥏

The rains and warm temperatures have sent the grass on our fairways into hyper drive! 🥴
Andréa Michaud and Adam Chainey trimmed up holes 16 and 17 to help make finding discs a bit easier.
