Well 9am Tuesdays and 8am Thursdays won’t be dull whilst Jerome is on holiday!

Instead, you’ll be able to enjoy a substitute teacher, and also the serendipity of how things work at Ganges Yoga Studio!

Tori hails from Calgary, but she spends good portions of her summers here on Salty visiting family. She reached out to me a few months back, on the exact same day that Jerome let me know about his summer holiday plans. A few group emails later, and voila! Tori will cover the class times where Jerome would usually teach, whilst he’s away and she’s here on holiday. I love it when a plan comes together!

So if you fancy a flowy yoga practice, join Tori tomorrow morning at 9am, and Thursday morning at 8am. You can drop in for $20 or use your CommUNITY Pass. She looks forward to meeting you on your mat!

Good morning from the mainland, and good morning from our morning visitor, who we have nicknamed Saskatoon (you’ll see why!).

For my children who were raised in England, this was their first close up experience with the majestic black bear. I feel lucky to have grown up in a place where I saw them frequently, and this little one taught me a lot this morning, as I had always thought of serviceberries as inedible, due to misreading something ages ago about the leaves and stems being toxic (which is true, but the berries are very edible when fully ripe!). I also didn’t realise that serviceberries are the same thing as Saskatoon berries and Juneberries, so many common names for the same plant, and my North American plant knowledge is still rudimentary compared to my English plant knowledge.

Anyway, Saskatoon enjoyed a good amount of these beautiful berries for breakfast, and we enjoyed just watching her/him for quite a long time. How I love all of Mother Nature’s majestic creatures!

Good morning world, from the bustling city centre of Vancouver!

I have a few things to say about connection, after a pretty rough night’s sleep in the city centre!

So, my feet haven’t touched Mother Earth since I left our beautiful island home yesterday, instead supported upon layers of concrete. But this morning, as I opened my curtains to catch sight of the towering skyscrapers all around, the Sun was shining directly onto my window between two of the behemoths. I stood there basking in the morning rays, and as I opened my eyes, I noticed two seagulls playing upon the air currents between the buildings. I woke myself up with some bouncing and smacking (if you know you know!), and then walked the few short blocks down to the water’s edge. I watched the sea cormorants, so elegant with their sleek blue black plumage, and followed the bobbing head of a curious seal near the harbour airplanes. I took in the sheer audacious enormity of the three cruise ships in dock, and I realised that even if I can’t feel the earth beneath my feet, I can still connect in tiny ways to the few reminders of nature even here in the city. As much as we try and modernise our cities, Mother Earth is always here, if we take the time to look for her.

So wherever you are this morning, afternoon or evening, take a moment to go outside, feel the beautiful Sun against your cheeks, and say hello to Mother Nature. She’ll hear you, for we are all connected, even when we try so hard in our big cities to pretend we aren’t inherently a part of her.

I am so excited for Cornelia to join our team at GYS. Well actually, it would be more accurate to say re-joining, as she’s been a part of the team before, with Celeste.

This woman inspires me. Before I met her, I started receiving her Substack musings in my email inbox, as I took over many mailing lists that the studio had before I moved here last year. I looked forward to her words sent from Africa each week, and I delighted in her poetic manner of describing the wildlife of Africa.

I finally met her earlier this year, and we just hit it off! She never mentioned that she had trained in India to teach yoga, nor that she had taught with Celeste, but alas these things have a way of coming around as and when they’re meant to.

And so, you’ll find Cornelia teaching from this coming Tuesday at 7pm. Her new class is described by Cornelia below, we hope to welcome you to practice, you can drop in or use your CommUNITY pass!

“This practice, Renewal and Resilience, is a blend of strength, Asana and Kriya—the combination that over time I have come to find most rewarding and sustaining in my own practice.
Think of this as connecting with the flow of our life force through a focus on core strength, steady and mindful movement, and kriya.”

Well it’s a morning for waxing lyrical, as I look back over 20 years with this man. Twenty years!! Nearly half my life since I met a Yorkshireman on the other side of the planet.

Twenty years since we met playing pool in the Wake Up Hostel Sydney bar, danced the night away, met a koala, sailed around the Whitsundays, sky dove in NZ. Twenty years since we looked at each other, having only met a month prior, and started to reorganise our lives around the existence of this new entity called “us”. Twenty years since I dropped out of my masters programme, moved to England, and got engaged to a man I’d known for six months. Clearly we knew it was meant to be, and it was clear to those who saw us too.

And here we are, twenty years later, a whole lot of life lived together. We’ve celebrated together, grieved together, brought children into the world together, laughed together and cried together.

Mr. D, I love you. Here’s to another twenty years, and then twenty more after that just for good measure.

Well this photo might be a few months old, but hey, I don’t take a lot of photos of myself, and the sentiment is spot on for this weekend.

What am I doing in this photo? Showing my gratitude for the Sun, throwing my arms open wide and welcoming each and every ray of sunshine that finds my skin.

What are we doing this Saturday evening? We are gathering in sacred circle, pausing on the eve of the longest day, and honouring the turning of the Wheel of the Year. We are celebrating the life giving energy of our Sun, and we are marvelling at Mother Nature and her awesomeness.

Join us for cacao, pranayama, yoga, guided meditation, and a crystal bowl sound bath, all facilitated by Luna. Comment here or private message to sign up, only a few spaces left!
