As the earth rests beneath a blanket of snow, it reminds us to take this time to recuperate.

Tonight is the longest night of the year. Traditionally the Winter Solstice is a time to reflect on the past, to tell stories, and to renew ourselves for the year ahead.

Tomorrow, after its extended rest, the sun will return, and the days will gradually grow long again. But tonight, we will be following the sun’s lead and using this time to recharge.

We thank Elders Florence and Philip Paynter and Elder Bone for sharing their wisdom and guiding us through ceremony earlier this month.

March 31st is National Indigenous Languages Day! Indigenous children were forbidden from speaking their languages at residential schools, leading to the endangerment of many Indigenous languages spoken in Canada. Today we celebrate the beauty and diversity of Indigenous languages and applaud efforts to revitalize and protect these vital parts of Indigenous cultures.
