The City of Saskatoon is proposing several amendments to the Zoning Bylaw as part of the Infill Review Project.
Proposed changes to the Garden and Garage Suite regulations:
• Detached Secondary Suites
Clarifying and updating regulations for garden and garage suites (proposed to be renamed detached secondary suites). The amendments would allow two-storey suites on sites with rear lane access, regardless of neighbourhood category, and clarify regulations related to floor area and garages attached to suites. Existing height, setback, and massing controls would remain.
These changes focus on detached secondary suites and housing options on corner sites in the Transit Development Area (TDA):
• Corner Sites in the TDA
Allowing up to six dwelling units on corner lots within the TDA through a discretionary use process. This would allow increases in density on sites with greater frontage and separation from neighbouring properties while maintaining existing building size regulations.
• Street Townhouses on Corner Lots
Permitting Street townhouses with up to four units on corner lots within the TDA. Height, setback, and building envelope regulations would remain unchanged to ensure development remains comparable in scale to other residential forms.
More detailed information about the proposed amendments can be found on the Infill Review Project Engage Page, here: https://www.saskatoon.ca/engage/zoning-infill-regulations
The proposed amendments are anticipated to be presented to the Municipal Planning Commission on April 28, 2026, and City Council on May 27, 2026.
Comments can be submitted by email to [email protected]. Feedback is requested by April 3, 2026.

Rink Update – Please Read 🙏
The rink is CLOSED until further notice while we have warmer weather.
Please stay off the ice so we can protect the surface. We’ll let everyone know as soon as it’s safe to return!
A few important reminders:
• When shoveling, please do not leave snow piles along the boards or scattered randomly on the ice.
• Shovels left out during warm/cold swings get frozen into the ice — we’ve had to chip them out multiple times.
→ As a result, we’ve removed all shovels and will no longer be leaving them out by the rink.
These frozen piles and stuck shovels create a lot of extra work for our volunteers who flood and maintain the ice. 💦
We’re all volunteers doing our best to keep this community rink open and enjoyable for everyone. Your help and cooperation make a huge difference. Thank you for understanding ❤️
We’ll post updates here as soon as we have more news!

Supervised public skating this week will be cancelled and we ask that you NOT go on the ice during the warm spell in hopes that we can salvage the ice after it turns in to a temporary swimming pool over the next few days. 🤪
On the plus side, it should freeze nice and smooth again afterwards! 🤣

This bizarre winter weather is doing a number on our rink.😖
The crust of freezing rain is flaking off and making a mess. The rising and falling temperatures and upcoming snow and then warm weather forecasted for next week leaves us hesitant to flood.
We'll watch the weather and see what we can do to keep the ice usable.
❄️ As a side (but very important) note: While we very much appreciate the community members helping shovel to keep the ice clear, please do not leave the piles of snow along the boards. It freezes in place (just like those lovely piles of snow the city leaves on the street when they plow) and makes it very difficult for us to clear to flood the ice again. If you shovel, toss the snow over the side please.
