“To me, being Métis means being proud of who I am and where I came from. I try to represent my community in a positive way and be someone younger Indigenous youth can look up to.”
2026 USask Indigenous Achievement Award Recipient and Huskie Women’s Hockey assistant captain Paris Oleksyn played her final year with the team this past season.
During her time as a Huskie, Paris has played an integral role on and off the ice, with her teammates and in the community.
As a dedicated member of the Huskies Indigenous student-athlete group Paris participated in and helped lead various initiatives including the Huskies Day In The Life program, high school visits with students, Indigenous Physical Activity Conference, USask OVPIE Indigenous Student Pep Rally and more.
She also played a vital role in the annual Huskie Women’s Hockey Play for a Cure game, where this past year the team raised $19,000 for breast cancer research in Saskatoon.
Congratulations to Paris on her well-deserved recognition as an Indigenous student-athlete, role model and leader - we are very proud to call her a Huskie 💚🤍
