Our members highlight this week is Anna Erickson
When did you start playing?
I started playing disc golf casually in 2017 and more competitively in 2021 when I played my first tournament 6 weeks postpartum with my second son at the Women’s Global Event at Diefenbaker!
What do you enjoy about the sport?
I love that I can get outside and do something competitive with my husband and three sons and that it’s low impact (I tore both my ACLs playing college volleyball). I only wish I found this sport earlier!
Favourite disc?
My favourite disc is probably my Thrasher or Lucid Air Sheriff. The thrasher was the first distance driver I threw that I actually got the full flight out of - and I was hooked on the sport from there!
Favourite course?
My favourite course in Saskatoon is probably Crickle Creek but favourite course ever played is either Raptors or Wycliffe
Do you know about the sdg board?
Yes and I am very thankful for all who serve and work hard to make this sport happen in Saskatoon!
What improvements would you like to see?
We would love to see a course somewhere on the east side of Saskatoon!
Do you know where your membership fee goes?
Yes, to course development, maintenance and fees with City, etc. but I also think it’s important how it shows the city how many people are interested/invested in the sport!
Any goals for the year?
Goals would be to increase my rating and get back to tournament play after a year off.
Is there a tournament or event you would like to play or would recommend?
I would love to make it out to Falcons Flight or Big Bear in Alberta. It’s hard to play all the ones I want as a young mom. Definitely recommend the Gold Eagle Open at Jackfish!
Is there a course on your bucket list?
Blue Mountain in Montana - I remember the pro tour went there a couple years ago and it looks beautiful

This week's member highlight was Benjamin Oaken.
When did you start playing?
1. I’ve been playing casually for about 6 years started tournaments 2 years ago.
What do you enjoy about the sport?
2. What I enjoy most about playing disc golf is playing fetch with myself with some of favourite people who are also playing fetch with themselves. Everyone in the community is so kind and inviting and it’s such a good time.
Favorite disk?
3. Innova pig
Favorite course?
4. In Saskatoon, crickle.
Outside probably eagle creek
Do you know about the sdg board?
5. I know that Bailey is on it and probably does a great job because she is amazing. Also signing up my kiddos for juniors which is such a cool program to offer.
What improvements would you like to see?
6. I think you guys are doing a great job with pop ups and tournaments and cool events. I would love to see a north end course in the future, a doubles / team tournament and it would be awesome to host nationals or another big event some time in the future. Oh and I would love to see pike lake get some love that layout is sick and is a little tlc away from being a super awesome track.
Do you know where your membership fee goes?
7. I have a pretty good idea, everything is wicked expensive and I think you all are doing a good job
Any goals for the year?
8. My goal this year is to get in the mix in mpo
Is there a tournament or event you would like to play or would recommend?
9. Every tournament is a blast I would highly recommend asshats or eso those are staples.
Is there a course on your bucket list?
10. Honestly, big bear in Canmore has always been there since I’ve heard about it and a crew of us are taking part this year which will be a highlight. But obviously maple hill or the beast in Nokia.

When did you start playing?
2008 ish. Whenever Wendy started to think I was cool.
What do you enjoy about the sport?
The camaraderie with friends and the challenge of improving my skills. Sneak in a beer every once in a while and you have the makings of a heck of a pastime activity.

Blue Ribbon Pines or old Diamond X blue layout. You could literally die there!
Do you know about the sdg board?

This weeks SDG player profile belongs to none other than Joel Pankratz.
When did you start playing?
I started playing in 2021 at 30 years old: I started playing the same year as Brandon Redekop; it was the same year James Conrad threw the Holy Shot and won World's; I started at the same age as Kris Roach when he started disc golf; my prospects look good. 😎
What do you enjoy about the sport?
Not putting; that may be why Brandon and Kris play MPO and I'm still MA2. 🤷 There's just some sort of endorphin that gets released with the backhand motion for me; I will even get a similar result if I set up the cable machine at the gym to simulate weighted throws. And then there's the "oh yeah" I get when I know I timed everything right and got the perfect snap on the whip; hyzer-flips are fun!
Favorite disk?
This is a hard question; probably whatever disc I'm throwing at the moment. My favorites to throw though? Kastaplast Berg, MVP Reactor, Streamline Lift; that's my ideal starter pack.
Favorite course?
Local: William A. Reid or Crickle Creek
Ever: Badlands DGC in Wayne Alberta, host of the Lost Egg Tournament
Do you know about the sdg board?
Yes, I served on the board as Director of Communications in 2024. I'm still getting emails btw. 😂
What improvements would you like to see?
Can the board do something about the weather? Or more courses? I don't know which is harder: changing the weather or convincing a committee to put in a course...
Do you know where your membership fee goes?
Not every specific dollar, but generally, yes. Operating leagues, tournaments, pop-up courses, course maintenance, etc. all costs money.
Any goals for the year?
The goal last year was to achieve a 900 rating before Easton Kuemper 😉 but I burnt out and went the wrong direction. This year, there's still a chance! I'm coming, Easton!
Oh, and I'd like to be the premier disc dyer in Saskatchewan (maybe even the prairies).
Is there a tournament or event you would like to play or would recommend?
LOST EGG!!! Always the Lost Egg! Closer to home though? I love the NADGT series of tournaments and try to play as many of them as I can.
Is there a course on your bucket list?
Not particularly... I'm not really a course player. I'd rather play a great game at a boring or familiar course (this doesn't happen often enough 😅) than feel like a newbie on a great course where I don't know the lines. That said, the Badlands DGC during the Lost Egg ought to be on every golfer's bucket list. 🤫

This weeks SDG player profile Peter Garden
When did you start playing?
Around 2010, I think
What do you enjoy about the sport?
I love that when I am on the disc golf course that I am not thinking about any other worries or stresses in my life. I am just enjoying the company of my friends and thinking about throwing my next shot. It’s my happy place.
Favorite disk
My favourite forehand disc is an old ESP Nuke that I probably bought around 2005. It is incredibly beat in and flies further than any other disc when I throw it right. I just started throwing backhand a couple of seasons ago and my go-to disc is a 2022 Tour Series Missy Gannon Thrasher. It is the perfect stability for my fairly slow arm speed and I can get great distance and accuracy out of it.
Favorite course
For local rounds, I love Crickle Creek. It offers a great variety of distances, shot shapes, and challenge. Overall though, I Jackfish Lake course is my favourite in the province. It is a beast of a course in an absolutely beautiful setting (anyone who has teed off on hole 18 at sunset will know what I mean). The coolest course I have ever played was one in a eucalyptus rainforest on the side of the Haleakala volcano on Maui. You are playing above the cloud line which is super trippy.
Do you know about the sdg board?
Yes, SDG has been doing an amazing job of promoting and growing the sport locally. I particularly appreciated all of the pop up courses that they have organized in the last couple of years around the city.
What improvements would you like to see?
I would love to see the winter putting league return. It was great to be able to get out once a week and throw some discs and keep the rust off my putting game.
Do you know where your membership fee goes?
I think that they go to course maintenance and upgrades and to organizing events like leagues and clinics around the city.
Any goals for the year?
I always like to play new courses. I hope to get down to Buffalo Pound and the new course in Moose Jaw. I am also thinking about planning a trip out to Alberta to play Aspen Meadows and some of the other courses near Calgary.
Is there a tournament or event you would like to play or would recommend?
The Asshats Invitational is a great season-opener that I would recommend to anyone because the emphasis is really about getting out, having fun, and hanging out with disc golfers from around Saskatchewan. This year, I am hoping to play the Saskatchewan Open which is a tournament I haven’t gotten out to yet.
Is there a course on your bucket list?
My absolute dream would be to go Norway, Finland and Sweden to play some courses there. Krokhol captured my imagination when I saw it on coverage last year.

This week's highlighted member is Don Mcmanus.
When did you start playing?
I started playing out in the Comox valley and while heli skiing in Bella Coola. Mostly just playing for fun with a few friends in 2018ish.
What do you enjoy about the sport?
I enjoy getting out and playing different courses around the country and just enjoying walking in parks and sharing beers with friends.
What is your favorite disk?
I’m a big fan of MVP right now and currently the Hex is my go to disk.
What's your favorite course?
My favourite course is Cumberland forest and Smith Lake Farm in the Comox valley.
Do you know about our SDG board?
I’m currently a member at large for the SDG board.
What improvements would you like to see in future?
I’d like to see a drop in league weekly for the club. We could pick a time ie Sunday mornings 9am and then rotate playing dief/crickle/etc. Make it $2-5 so ace pot gets $1/2 and the rest goes to club. Have 2-3 people designated to run it and collect $. Run it on udisk.
Do you know where your membership fees go?
Not sure how the membership fee is divided up
Do you have any goals this year?
My goal is to improve my game, travel and play courses. So far I’ve played BC, AB, SK, MB, ON, USA and Mex.

What do you enjoy about the sport?
I enjoy the aspect of being out in nature and getting together with friends and family even if it's just for a quick round. Great way to blow off steam after a crappy day at work.

My favorite disc gosh too many to choose hahahah my go to driver would be my wave. Putter I've really liked the Berg's of late.
What's your favorite course?
Either diefnebaker or crickle creek
Do you know about our sdg board?
Yes I'm aware of the board as some people I bowl against are very into the sport. They're the ass hats Wendy's always great at helping me with questions I have and so on
What improvements would you like to see in the future?
For improvements I'd love to see a new course or two in the city sometimes it's just so busy and you need to wait a while to play but the pop up courses this year were awesome!
Do you know where your membership fees go?
And I guess for the fees I'd say they go into the organization/fundraisers and now even this year we get a kick back
