✨TWO DEEP MUSCLES I PAY A LOT OF ATTENTION TO 👀💛
The QL and psoas sit deep within the body, on either side of the lumbar spine, creating an important relationship between your spine, pelvis, ribs and hips.
And when this relationship becomes unbalanced, you may feel it in places you wouldn’t necessarily expect.
Low back aching.
Hip tension.
Pelvic imbalance.
Restricted breathing or movement.
One side that always feels tighter.
Difficulty finding a comfortable standing or sitting position.
This is one reason I don’t treat the body as a collection of separate muscles.
In my private sessions, I’m looking at how your body is working together, your QL, psoas, diaphragm, pelvis, fascia, breath, nervous system and movement patterns.
Sometimes the place asking for attention isn’t the place you’ve been trying to fix.
✨ This is where assessment matters.
Through hands-on therapy, movement, traction, decompression and alignment work, we can start uncovering the connections your body has been showing you all along.
Private sessions now booking at Inner Peace Yoga, Therapy & Wellness.
If I can’t get you in soon enough, Elisa is apprenticing and taking on clients now!

💛Something I don’t talk about nearly enough: SLEEP. 😴💛
Quality sleep is one of the most important pieces of our overall health, and when breathing is repeatedly disrupted during sleep, the effects can reach far beyond simply feeling tired.
Untreated sleep apnea can be associated with:
• Daytime fatigue, headaches & difficulty concentrating
• Anxiety and mood changes
• High blood pressure & cardiovascular strain
• Blood sugar regulation and metabolic issues
• Restless legs and disrupted movement
• Reduced libido and sexual dysfunction
And this is where it connects so strongly to the work I do.
Your breath, diaphragm, rib cage, posture, neck and nervous system are all interconnected. In my sessions, I look at how the body is breathing and moving as a whole, including tension and restrictions that may be affecting your ability to breathe efficiently, relax and regulate.
Bodywork and movement therapy do not replace medical assessment or treatment for sleep apnea, but improving breathing mechanics, mobility, alignment and nervous-system regulation can be an important part of supporting better overall function.
If you snore heavily, wake gasping, experience pauses in breathing, or are constantly exhausted despite sleeping, please talk to your doctor about being assessed for sleep apnea. ❤️
And if you sleep beside someone experiencing these symptoms, your sleep and wellbeing matter too. You deserve support, rest and care.
Sleep isn’t just rest. It’s when your entire body gets a chance to recover.
Interested in working with me, or my apprentice Elisa? Please send me a message and I can give you more details! 💜

🦶 YOUR FEET ARE THE FOUNDATION OF YOUR WHOLE BODY💛
When the medial arch collapses, it can change the way the foot and lower leg move, often encouraging more internal rotation through the shin. That change doesn’t necessarily stop at the foot. It can influence the knees, hips, pelvis and the way the spine organizes above them.
Supportive footwear absolutely has a purpose, especially when we’re standing or walking for long periods on hard surfaces like concrete.
But there’s another side we don’t talk about enough:
If our feet are supported every waking hour, when do the deeper muscles of the feet get the opportunity to work?
Think about what happens when any part of the body is immobilized for a long period of time: muscles lose strength because they aren’t being asked to do their job.
Our feet are no different.
The goal isn’t necessarily to throw away your supportive shoes or orthotics. It’s to also give your feet appropriate opportunities to move, strengthen, spread, adapt and reconnect with the ground.
Healthy feet need more than cushioning and support. They need:
• strong intrinsic foot muscles
• healthy arches that can respond to load
• mobile toes and ankles
• good sensory feedback from the ground
• healthy tissue and padding under the foot
• the ability to support and organize the body above them
Your feet are your foundation.
Sometimes when we’re working on knee pain, hip dysfunction, pelvic instability or even patterns higher up the spine, we need to start all the way down at the feet.
At Inner Peace Yoga, Therapy & Wellness, this is why I assess the whole body, from your feet to your head, rather than only looking at the place that hurts.
The problem you feel isn’t always where the problem began. 🦶

🍂 Fall is coming, time to get your bookings in!
Hi, I’m Joelle! 👋 I’m the owner and therapist behind Inner Peace Yoga, Therapy & Wellness.
I work one-on-one with people experiencing back and neck pain, tight hips, shoulder tension, chronic pain, poor posture, limited mobility and bodies that simply don’t feel their best.
My private 90-minute sessions are completely individualized, with your first session beginning with a full assessment so we can understand what YOUR body needs.
💛 I also offer tiered/sliding-scale pricing because making this therapy as accessible as possible is really important to me.
With everyone settling back into routines after summer, now is a great time to secure your fall sessions.
Message me for details, pricing options and availability. 🍂
I’m also apprenticing Elisa in Connected Movement Therapy and she’s taking on clients too!

🏫 PRINCIPALS, ADMINISTRATORS & TEACHERS! 💛
As the new school year approaches, Inner Peace Yoga, Therapy & Wellness is once again offering wellness-based movement classes for school staff.
We’ve had the opportunity to teach at schools many times over the years, and we’re excited to already be heading into local schools again this year to help teachers and staff start the school year feeling a little more grounded, refreshed and connected to their bodies.
Our classes can include:
✨ Therapeutic movement & mobility
✨ Neck, shoulder & back tension release
✨ Myofascial & fascial release techniques
✨ Postural awareness & strengthening
✨ Breathwork & nervous system regulation
✨ Gentle stretching and relaxation
✨ Practical tools staff can use throughout the school year
Classes can be adapted to your staff and are accessible to all experience and mobility levels, no yoga experience necessary.
It’s a wonderful addition to a staff wellness day, professional development day or back-to-school gathering.
If you’re a principal, administrator or teacher and would love to bring a class into your school before students return, send us a message! 🏫💛

💛 Does your body just feel… TIGHT?
Tight neck. Achy back. Stiff hips. Tense shoulders. Poor posture. Feeling like your body just doesn’t move the way it used to.
You don’t have to wait until you’re in serious pain to do something about it.
Our therapy sessions combine myofascial release, muscle tension release, traction, therapeutic movement, spinal alignment, decompression and postural strengthening to help your body move better, feel better and function the way it’s meant to.
We don’t just chase the spot that hurts, we look at how your whole body is connected and what may actually be creating the tension in the first place.
If you’ve been saying “I really need to do something about my body…” - this is your sign. 🤍

💛Your Rhomboids: Small Muscles With a BIG Job 💪💛
Your rhomboids sit between your shoulder blades, connecting your spine to your scapulae (shoulder blades). Their job is much more important than simply “pulling your shoulders back.”
They help:
✨ Stabilize and control the shoulder blades
✨ Support healthy posture and upper-body alignment
✨ Coordinate movement between the shoulders, neck and upper back
✨ Create a stable foundation for healthy arm movement
✨ Support efficient breathing mechanics through better rib cage and shoulder positioning
When the rhomboids become tight, overworked or weak, you may notice aching or burning between the shoulder blades, rounded shoulders, upper-back tension, neck discomfort, or that constant feeling of needing to stretch or “crack” your upper back.
And here’s the important part: tight rhomboids don’t always need more stretching. Sometimes they’re already working overtime trying to stabilize poor alignment elsewhere in the body.
Rather than chasing the painful spot, we want to understand why those muscles are working so hard in the first place.
If you have questions or would like to book a session with myself or Elisa, reach out, we’d be happy to help you explore what may be contributing to your tension and discomfort. 🤍

💛✨ THE DIAPHRAGM + PSOAS CONNECTION ✨💛
Your diaphragm does much more than help you breathe, and tension here can influence areas you may not expect.
The diaphragm and psoas have a close anatomical and functional relationship around the lumbar spine.
When the diaphragm isn’t moving freely, breathing can become shallow and the body may create more tension through the core, low back and hips.
When the psoas is chronically tight or guarded, it can influence the pelvis, lumbar spine and even the way we breathe.
You might notice:
• Low back or hip tension
• Difficulty taking a deep, comfortable breath
• Rib or abdominal tightness
• A constant feeling of “gripping” through your core
• Tension that keeps returning even after stretching
This is why I don’t just chase the place that hurts.
Through Critical Alignment Therapy, along with other modalities I integrate, we look deeper at the patterns and connections throughout your whole body.
Sometimes where you feel the tension isn’t where the pattern begins. 💛
