It was a special weekend for the Chinese Martial Arts Academy at the International Kung Fu Hall of Fame Gala!

A huge congratulations to Coach Haven on achieving an official Duan Wei (Level 8 ) ranking from Wushu Canada which recognizes him as an official Master Coach. This is an incredible milestone that reflects years of dedication and passion.

Coach Haven was also awarded with a Silver Medallion in the Professional Achievement category and inducted into the International Wushu Kung Fu Hall of Fame. What an outstanding accomplishment!

We also extend our congratulations to all individuals who received their Duan Wei certification or were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Your hard work continues to inspire martial arts in Canada. .

This achievement is more than one person’s success as it represents the collective support of an entire community. Thank you to everyone who has stood behind Coach Haven and supported his mission of sharing the art of Wushu with others. Your encouragement makes all the difference.

Here’s to continuing the journey, growing stronger together, and building the spirit of Chinese martial arts!

Last night was an unforgettable one for our team at the Chinese Martial Arts Academy.

Our very own Coach Tekoa stepped back into the ring to compete for the WKA Canadian Women’s Muay Thai Title at the Women’s Muay Thai Gala. In recognition of International Women’s Day, the night showcased the incredible strength, skill, and determination of women in the sport. you always put on an amazing show!!

Tekoa faced an extremely tough opponent from Gorilla Muay Thai in Winnipeg, and both athletes delivered an incredible performance. From start to finish, the fight was a true display of mental toughness, ring intelligence, experience, and heart. Round after round, Tekoa pushed herself to new limits and showed the grit that defines athletes.

The fight concluded at the end of the 4th round, and we’re proud to announce that Coach Tekoa is the new WKA Canadian Women’s Muay Thai Champion!

A huge congratulations to Tekoa on this amazing achievement. We also want to extend the utmost respect to her opponent as both fighters brought out the best in each other and showed what this sport is all about.

Thank you to our entire gym, friends, and family for the continued support. We truly couldn’t do this without you.

Now it’s back to the gym… and back to the grind.

What a day for the Chinese Martial Arts Academy Team!

After a tough few weeks of preparation and last-minute scrambling, it all paid off in a big way!

Saturday kicked off with a full day at an open martial arts competition. Eleven of our athletes stepped onto the mats to showcase their skills, and for a few of them, it was their very first competition! We couldn’t be prouder of the energy and excitement that they showed!

By the end of the day, the team brought home 18 medals, including the Weapons Grand Champion title in the coloured belt division! What an achievement for Hannah!

But the day didn’t stop there…
Just a few hours later, the team shifted gears and delivered an exciting performance at the Lunar New Year Celebration. We are always lucky to be part of such a vibrant community event. A huge thank you to the Chinese Dance School of Saskatchewan – Saskatoon Branch for hosting another amazing celebration for our city each year!

It was a pleasure to have you share your deep knowledge and experience with Coach Haven and our dedicated members at the Chinese Martial Arts Academy. Everyone walked away with improved technique, greater understanding, and a renewed passion for the art of Tai Chi.

Incredible Results from the 2025 International Wushu Festival & Canadian National Championships! What a weekend for our athletes!

This year, 4 team members represented the Chinese Martial Arts Academy on the national stage—and they delivered our best showing ever!

One of our newest competitors made his festival debut and brought home GOLD in the Traditional Long Weapon category! What a way to make an entrance!

Our 3 returning athletes competed in the High Performance Canadian National Championships with world-class Wushu athletes from across the country. They showed a lot of poise, and incredible skill throughout the competition:
🥉 Bronze – Senior Women’s Chang Quan
🥉 Bronze – Senior Men’s Gunshu
🥈 Silver – Junior Female Group C Daoshu
🥈 Silver – Junior Female Group C Gunshu

These results reflect not only our athletes’ hard work but also the unwavering support from our gym family. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who trains, supports, and cheers for our athletes every day. It’s a team effort 24/7 and we couldn’t do it without you.

Also, congratulations and thank you to all athletes, coaches, and gyms who attended the event—your sportsmanship, support, and camaraderie made the competition truly special.
Now it’s time to get back in the gym and build on this momentum. The future is bright for our team!

Just one day after celebrating our gym’s 25th anniversary, we had the incredible honor of welcoming Master Ronnie Yee to the Chinese Martial Arts Academy to share his deep knowledge of Chen Style Tai Chi.

Even more amazing — just a few weeks later, he returned to share even more wisdom with our members!

Coach Haven has been fortunate to learn from Master Yee for decades, and we’re so grateful that our community gets to experience that same level of insight and tradition.

Hosted by Cruz 96’s own Curtis Anderson, the energy in the near-capacity crowd was electric! One of the event’s most touching moments came when Elders Peter Gardippi and Wally Awasis took the stage to perform a special song and gifted Coach Haven Seto an eagle feather in recognition of his accomplishments with the Academy. What an honour!!
