Bishop’s University Athletics is proud to announce the appointment of Fred Asselin as the new Head Coach of Men’s Rugby.

With more than 30 years of coaching and leadership experience, Fred brings an exceptional rugby pedigree to Lennoxville. A former Canadian international, he competed in 38 international tournaments, including two Commonwealth Games, the Rugby World Cup Sevens, and earned 15 test caps with Canada’s Fifteens team against rugby powers such as South Africa, France, and Wales.

Beyond his impressive résumé, Fred is known as a collaborative, athlete-centered leader committed to developing people first. His passion for athlete development, high-performance sport, and building strong team cultures aligns perfectly with the values of Gaiters Athletics.

As he begins assembling his coaching staff and preparing for the future, we are excited about the next chapter of Bishop’s Men’s Rugby—one built on hard work, accountability, resilience, strong character, and an unwavering commitment to one another.

The Bishop’s Gaiters men’s and women’s golf teams will compete this week at the 2026 Canadian University/College Championship, presented by BDO, held at Golf La Tempête from June 16-19.

Both Gaiters teams qualified for the national championship through their performances during the Fall 2025 RSEQ season, earning the opportunity to represent Bishop’s University on the national stage.

Convocation weekend is almost here 💜 Alongside celebrating the Class of 2026, we’ll recognize two remarkable leaders whose impact reaches far beyond our campus. Our first Honourand is Marie-Philip Poulin.

From Olympic gold medals to championship titles, Marie-Philip Poulin has defined excellence in women’s hockey. A leader, trailblazer, and inspiration on and off the ice, she continues to shape the future of the sport for generations to come.

We are proud to recognize Marie-Philip Poulin with an honourary Doctor of Civil Law degree at Convocation 2026.

Gaiters set to represent Canada at FISU 3x3 Americas Tournament

Tegucigalpa, Honduras – The Bishop’s Gaiters now know their schedule for the 2026 FISU 3x3 Americas Tournament, taking place May 26–28 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

The tournament features five pools. Bishop’s has been placed in Pool D alongside UNAH Pumas (Honduras), UTS (Colombia), and UNAP (Peru).

The top team from each pool advances to the quarter-finals, along with the best second-place finisher. The remaining second-place teams will compete in play-in games for the final two spots in the elimination round.

Representing the Gaiters are two-time Bishop’s University Male Athlete of the Year Charles Robert, RSEQ all-star Yanis Malanda, and teammates Reggie Jean-Seraphin and Kyle Maurice. The team is led by U SPORTS Coach of the Year Matt McLean and former Gaiter Kyle Desmarais, now 3x3 Development Coordinator for Basketball Quebec.

Bishop’s University would like to thank Robert Goldberger ’79, whose leadership contribution made the team’s participation possible, along with Excellence Sportive Estrie – Centre-du-Québec, Basketball Quebec, and MNA Geneviève Hébert for their valued financial support.
