She’s definitely gained her confidence back her second night back after her broken foot injury!
She even hit a new personal best lap time in her heat race driving from the back up to catch the leaders, finishing second!
KIRKPATRICK FIGHTING WAY BACK TO THE FRONT FOLLOWING INJURY AT START OF SEASON
SNS Racer Avery Kirkpatrick of AK Racing started her junior late model season awaiting for the racing to start, with the division starting later than the others. When it finally came time, rain became a nusiance and then an off track injury derailed the start of her 2026 racing season. Luckily for her, Lucas Finnegan was able to compete in two events for her while she recovered, taking a win and runner-up finish in her car.
The former Junior Late Model champion (when there was split divisions) is finding her way with the faster field and while her return to the track hasn't provided the highlights just yet, she has started to show some of the speed she had in 2025, before a massive crash sidelined her as well. In said race, she was battling for the lead, tracking down the leader before spinning and a lap car clobbered her stationary #13. Even with her injury riddled start, Finnegan helped propel the Ennismore racer into 3rd in points, behind Brody Coates and Owen Ephgrave.
Avery has all the skills to compete up at the front, and she has the car as well. She finished 2nd in her heat, and despite starting 3rd in her feature, fell back to 7th, after some contact on track. It will be really exciting to see if she can battle with Coates and Ephgrave for the feature wins. This is the time of the season where the title battle heats up, and she remains only 15 points behind Coates for the lead. What Lucas was able to do for her was great, but we know she wants to show her talent and surpass the boys while doing so.
This is Avery's second season in the SNS Racing Family. She is a former winner of a Scuffy Award, winning in 2025 in a shared category with Jacob Vandbelt for Most Improved.
