For many men, the hardest part of therapy isnโ€™t the conversation, but making the decision to start one. The first session of therapy isnโ€™t about having everything figured out. Itโ€™s just starting the process. Showing up is the first step and that is very much celebrated!

June is Menโ€™s Mental Health Month

Although men account for about 75% of su***de deaths in Canada, fewer than 30% of men experiencing mental health challenges seek professional support, according to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Stigma, social pressures, and traditional expectations can make it difficult for men to talk about their struggles or reach out for help.

This month, we recognize the importance of creating communities where mental health can be discussed openly and without judgement. Simple actions like checking in on a friend, listening with compassion, or sharing resources can make a meaningful difference.

Halfway through month and figured that since we are pushing the men to open up, that I can do the same! I am a person with lived experience and I continue to struggle at times. I now know that itโ€™s okay to open up to loved ones and to show myself some compassion! Men, reach out and open up, I promise itโ€™s worth it!

month continues! Feel your feelings, men! Get in touch with how they show up in your body to better understand and help those around to understand you better. โ€œManning upโ€ does not require us to bury feelings, but to be brave to get to know them better. I have had to learn how to feel those feelings and am forever grateful for it. Itโ€™s a process and journey, but one thatโ€™s very rewarding!

June is month! Check in on the men around you. This connection can save a life as men account for nearly 75% of su***de deaths in Canada. Buddy up with the men in your life, create connection through shared activity, โ€œman upโ€ by having emotional conversations, and remember there are lots of supports out there!

Loving the nice weather the last couple of days! What an impact sunshine has on our lives (hopefully it continues). Starting the day with physical activity is such a huge thing for me both physically and mentally! Looking forward to more morning walks, especially as my summer hours kick in this week (no Fridays in clinic)!

1+1 = 2
1+2 = 3
1+3 = 5
1+4 = 5
1+5 = 6
We tend to be drawn to the equation with the wrong result that we overlook the ones we got right! Self-discovery is not about becoming a โ€œperfectโ€ version of yourself. It is about learning to appreciate who you already are while continuing to grow through experiences, challenges, setbacks, and wins.
Some days you will feel confident. Some days you will question yourself. Both are part of the process.
Perfection keeps us stuck chasing an impossible standard. Growth happens when we allow ourselves to be human, to learn, and to keep moving forward anyway.
Appreciate your progress. Appreciate your effort. Appreciate the version of you that kept going even when things felt uncertain.
