Did I ever tell you how much I love immersing myself in nature? I’m sure by the photos I post you’ve likely figured it out by now. Nature is what I do to decompress, find clarity of mind, soothe my soul, and gaze in awe and wonder at the beauty that surrounds me. As a counselling therapist I often recommend nature based interventions to clients for good reason. It has been proven that nature produces significant outcomes in stress reduction, reducing blood pressure, nervous system regulation and so much more! All impacting mood, and quality of well-being. That’s why it’s often quoted “into the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul” Pausing in nature can certainly help reduce rumination and incessant thinking. Where we put our focus matters. When I’m feeling frazzled those who know me best say, “have you been in the trees lately”? Whenever I need to get lost, I simply say “if you’re looking for me, and I’m not in the forest, check the river”

Take good care 🤍

Before you stands a waterfall, cascading over smooth stone cliffs into a pool below.

The water flows continuously, effortlessly, reminding you that life is always moving……… always changing……. always finding its way.

Watch as the flowing water carries every worry, every fear, every burden, every disappointment downstream…….farther and farther away, until it disappears from sight.

Listen to the steady rhythm of the waterfall. It never struggles, it simply flows.

Allow yourself to become just as steady.

It’s been on my heart today (and a lot lately) how abrasive and painful life’s circumstances can actually be.

I hope that whenever you go through difficult trials or when you fall, that you have a soft place to land.

That’s one of my endeavours in my practice is to offer that soft place when everything around you feels hard. If you are seeking counselling I have evening appointments available.

A little waterfall hidden through the trees on a mountain trail.

Time in nature for me is time of refreshing.

If you are feeling overwhelmed and overstimulated I highly recommend bathing yourself in nature.

Self-care is the act of caring for yourself while self-compassion is affording YOU the opportunity to care for yourself.

Things can easily get out of balance. You can set the rhythm of your life simply by slowing down.

Do you feel that internal tension when you are forced to rush? I do. And I don’t like it, and I won’t conform to that pattern.

Rushing is meant for waterfalls not for you or me.

Slow down, friend. It might feel a little rebellious to go against the rapids.

But my friend, Let the water do the rushing, while you simply stay.

It doesn't always look like people-pleasing on the surface. Sometimes it looks like covering for someone. Making the excuse before they have to. Absorbing the fallout so they never actually feel what their choice cost. It feels like kindness in the moment, but it's really just a different shape of the same old habit, keeping the peace instead of letting the truth land.

Your mind learned somewhere that other people's comfort mattered more than honesty. So it protects them from consequences, just as it once learned to protect itself from conflict, by stepping in before things get uncomfortable for anyone.

Real empathy can coexist with a consequence. You can care about someone and still let them feel the natural result of what they did. In fact, that's often the more respectful option, treating them as capable of handling reality instead of needing to be shielded from it.

Let the boundary hold, even when your empathy wants to soften it. ⚡
