There's a running joke about people who do CrossFit - "How do you find a CrossFitter at a party? You don't have to. They will tell you about it in two minutes."

Ha. Ha. But there might be an element of truth to this also, and we might as well admit this.

Why? Because when you get a bunch of people in a room working hard, making healthy lifestyle changes, seeing themselves get stronger and fitter, and making friends in the process... don't you think you would want to share that as well?

Being part of a community that values health and performance, actively supports one another, and whom you probably see more often than your friends from other areas of your life - this all makes it "cool to care" about your physical capabilities, your nutrition, and getting enough sleep.

In a world where people joke about being out of shape, where drinking a glass or three of w**e daily is normalized, fast food is considered a reasonable meal option, being constantly "busy" is glorified, and where people get in their car to drive places that are a 10-minute walk away... it's often NOT cool to care about how much you can deadlift, or what your mile run time is, or how many pull-ups you can do.

BUT... if you DO start training, and you DO start to realize the value of being strong, capable, healthier, and having a clearer head to face your day with -- you might just be on the road to thinking that it's cool to care.

Because it IS cool to care about having strong legs that keep you out of a nursing home.

It IS cool to care about not getting out of breath when you go up a flight of stairs.

It IS cool to care about putting good fuel in your body so that you have energy all day long.

It IS cool to care that your friend next to you just got their first pull-up after working at it for six months.

Don't get me wrong here. I'm not saying that doing CrossFit will make you objectively "cool", because who knows what that actually means.

Life is too short to worry about if other people think you're "cool".

Just do your thing. If you've got fitness goals, find other people who share those goals. Because in THAT room, that space... it IS cool to care. WE think you're cool. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

This one is special. I'm Colin, the owner of CrossFit Steinbach, and Wanda Widdifield is my mother-in-law. Wanda was the very first member in our Silvers program years ago, and she's still part of it, at 84 years old.
She just reached 500 classes today, and that's pretty awesome.
Does CrossFit look a little different at 84 versus, say 34 years old? Sure, but the principles are still the same. Do what you can, get outside your comfort zone, and keep showing up.
Wanda sure as heck didn't start training in order to be a role model, but her perseverance and commitment inspires her classmates every day.

And if there's anyone out there who thinks that CrossFit is out of reach for you... it's not. If Wanda can do it, you can do it too. ๐Ÿ’ช

Two more member milestones achieved! Congrats to (with a cameo from ) and on 100 classes attended! They are both hard workers, and I think it's fair to say they've surprised themselves with the strength gains they've made recently. Great work!! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช

Every so often you come across a quote that just hits home. Today, it was this one for us.

"Your fitness may save your life one day, or it can enhance every day of your life."

Sometimes the unknowable happens in life - an accident, a mistake, an illness or injury.

Being stronger and fitter helps you weather the storm and bounce back quicker. If you're not strong to begin with, an illness or injury can set you back significantly. If you're already strong and you lose, say 50% of your strength, you'll likely still be able to get around. And when you are able to fully train again, your strength will come back quicker.

That's the (hopefully!) infrequent scenario, but fitness will also help with the everyday stuff of life. Climbing stairs, getting up out of chairs, mowing the lawn, shovelling snow, carrying groceries... they all get easier.

Your mindset will be more positive. You'll have more energy. The list goes on.

It's not going to be easy, but it will be worth it.

All of our members had a first day, just like you will. Take the first step and reach out!

"Yeah, I used to do that, but I'm too old for that now."

Ask most people what they did physically as a child, and how it compares to what they do now, and you'll often get that answer.

Are you actually "too old" to do a headstand, a handstand, or jump on a trampoline, or play sports, or roll around on the lawn with a kid or dog? Is age really the reason? Or is it because you stopped doing that stuff years ago and you're just not used to it any more?

Because there ARE people in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond who do all of those things I just mentioned. Do we have to be smarter about how we approach these activities compared to our 10-year-old selves who were made of rubber and magic? Yes, absolutely. But it's not JUST "because we're old".

Never stop playing. Never stop learning and exploring your body's capabilities just because it's fun. Never stop trying to get stronger and fitter.

Our ability to move well depends on us... moving.

Final workout of the ! Work was done. Fun was had. Some of us still haven't suddenly found a love for burpees and thrusters... but hey, we're working on it! ๐Ÿฅต

Whooo... we are just coming down from the , because it was a blast! We hold an in-house intramural event at the same time, and it came with some friendly team competition, weird hats, challenges, and lots of goodwill.

Congratulations to everyone who challenged themselves and tackled some tough workouts, and for being part of this special event!

Does your fitness program check these boxes?

โœ… ๐—œ๐˜'๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐˜‚๐—ป!

Simply put, if it makes you want to come back tomorrow and do it all again, you're more likely to do it consistently and long-term.

โœ…

A balance between the two makes you more functional, and it's best for long-term health and body composition.

โœ…

Good coaching gives you a massive shortcut on the road to your goals.

โœ…

It helps your mental and physical health, and leaves you enough energy to do all that you want to do in your day. Bonus points if your fitness program is efficient enough so that you still have time in your day to do other fun stuff.

We've been inspired by posts by some of our members who are using their gym fitness in their everyday lives, and that's awesome!

Most people want their fitness program to support their lives, not BE their lives.

If you checked all four boxes, great! If you didn't, well... we might know a place where you can check 'em all. Check out our website, or send us a note!
