🥌 To all Summerland Curlers 🥌
Curling Canada has initiated a conversation about “The Future of Curling.”

https://www.curling.ca/futureofcurling/

This is a very timely discussion as the Summerland Curling Club has begun to look at the sustainability of our curling club. A study was done from January - March of 2026 and highlights five priorities for our club to work on. You can find the report and priorities here:

https://summerlandcurling.org/wp-content/uploads/SCC-Looking-to-the-Future-Report-1.pdf

Over the summer a plan was put in place to begin working on these priorities. These will be set out in the next SCC Newsletter. Watch your email.

Please read the report.
Please check out the Curling Canada website for the conversation project.
Together let’s grow our sport.

The roots of curling!

The roots of curling!

When the Scots reached Canada, they looked at the frozen rivers and saw exactly what they had left behind: a curling rink. ❄️

In 1807 a group of Scottish merchants in Montreal founded the Montreal Curling Club, and it is often called the oldest active sporting club in North America. They played on the ice of the St Lawrence, in tam o' shanters and thick woollen stockings, with the same shouts and the same fierce arguments over the last stone that rang across Scottish lochs every hard winter.

Curling went wherever the Scots went in Canada. Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes and later the prairies all had clubs, and a bonspiel on a frozen lake could bring whole communities out onto the ice. For an emigrant far from home, there was nothing quite like hearing a stone running true and a skip roaring "soop!" in a broad Scots voice.

Today Canada is the greatest curling nation on earth. And it all began with a few homesick Scots who refused to let a good winter go to waste. 🥌
