The Summerside Western Capitals have acquired forward Matthew Ferdinand from the Valley Wildcats in exchange for a player development fee.

The 6'1", 194-pound right winger is a 2007-born forward from New Maryland, NB, who brings three seasons of junior experience to the Western Capitals. Ferdinand has appeared in 82 career CJHL games (regular season + playoffs) with Fredericton, Grand Falls, Hearst (NOJHL) and Valley, recording five goals, 12 assists and 69 penalty minutes.

The Summerside Western Capitals are pleased to announce the signing of forward Gavin Smith.

A native of St. Andrews, NB, the 6'2", 183-pound forward is a 2008-born player who has spent the majority of his junior career at Rothesay Netherwood School. Smith has junior experience with both the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL and the Valley Wildcats of the MHL, appearing in one game with Charlottetown during the 2024–25 season and 18 games with Valley in 2025–26, recording four goals and two assists.

Smith was originally selected by the Amherst Ramblers in the 4th Round (44th Overall) of the 2024 MHL Draft and by the Charlottetown Islanders in the 8th Round (132nd Overall) of the 2024 QMJHL Entry Draft. He was traded from Amherst to Valley in August 2025 before the Western Capitals acquired his rights from the Wildcats in June.
