People love to talk about sports specificity in the gym. Let me remind you, the gym is NOT your sport. That’s the whole point. It fills in your performance gaps by providing stimulus you CANNOT get from your sport.

Here’s a little tip to help filter out the scam artists and con men of the fitness industry. DO NOT listen to:

1. Anyone who says machines aren’t functional
2. Anyone who says optimal training is the only way to train
3. Anyone who says steady state is bad for you
4. Anyone who says veganism, carnivor, keto, or any extreme diet is best
5. Anyone who touts ancestral living or claims modern medicine is the only way
7. (if you haven’t noticed a pattern) anyone who only speak in absolutes

Wanna know how to rehab any injury in 3 words?

Regress, then progress.

In virtually 100% of cases where I’ve helped a client with a rehabilitation based goal, the last thing we did was avoid the thing that hurt them/caused pain. The first thing we want to do is find a way to do the thing that hurt them/causes them pain in a way that doesn’t hurt them or cause them pain. Then we appropriately progress them at a rate that doesn’t aggravate symptoms till they can do the problematic thing.

Game changing technique for heath and performance in the gym:

Step 1 - ditch the warm ups and just do your accessories first (e.g. calf raise, ham curl, adductor machine, side bends to start your workout). But actually push them to failure (only 1-2 sets each tho).

Step 2 - do 3-5 sets of 3-5 reps of a rapid plyometric (box jumps aren’t plyometrics, you need a landing and IMMEDIATE take off for it to be a plyometric).

Your health and performance will thank me.
