It’s Water Quality Wednesday! 💧🐟
In-stream work is all about making creeks healthier for salmon and other aquatic life.
By adding features like gravel, woody debris, and fish passage structures, SHaRP helps create better habitat, improve stream conditions, and give salmon the support they need to thrive. 🌿
Bad news: we found invasive plants in Surrey. 🌿😬
Good news: the SHaRP team is here to remove them! 💪🐟
Invasive plants can spread quickly and outcompete native species that help keep streambanks stable, provide shade, and create healthy habitat for salmon and other wildlife.
By removing invasives and giving native plants more room to grow, we’re helping Surrey’s creeks stay healthier and more resilient. 🌱💧

As the SHaRP 2026 summer term comes to an end, we’re celebrating an incredible season of hard work, big accomplishments, unforgettable memories, and a team that brought so much energy to everything they did!
From restoration projects and community events to long days in the field, this team showed up with passion, teamwork, and tons of laughs along the way.
We’re very proud of everything the 2026 summer team accomplished and grateful for all the memories made along the way. Here’s to the friendships, experiences, and impact that will last long after the summer ends! 🌱

💧 Water Quality Wednesday at Fleetwood Park!
Healthy streams need more than just clean water. Instream restoration work can make a huge difference by improving water flow, creating resting areas, and making it easier for salmon to move through the creek.
At Fleetwood Park, SHaRP uses restoration tools like flexi baffles to slow fast-moving water, create small pools, and improve fish passage. These changes also help build a healthier, more stable stream environment overall.
Small improvements in the creek can make a big difference for salmon habitat. 🐟🌿

SHaRP stands for the Salmon Habitat Restoration Program; we’re a youth-led team working throughout Surrey to protect and restore local streams, support salmon habitat, and connect the community with the waterways around them.
From stream restoration and invasive species removal to water quality monitoring, education, and community events, it all comes back to one goal: healthier creeks and healthier habitat for salmon. 💧🌱

Sometimes invasive plant removal takes a little muscle. 💪 Other times, we try emotional negotiation first. 😂🙏
Unfortunately, the invasives weren’t convinced, so the SHaRP team had to step in. Removing invasive plants gives native species more room to grow and helps support healthier streamside habitats.
It’s all part of the hands-on work SHaRP crews do to protect and enhance Surrey’s creeks and natural areas. 🌱🐟

Water Quality Wednesday at Fleetwood Park! 💧🌿
This week, we’re looking at how invasive plants can impact salmon habitat. By pushing out native vegetation, invasives can mean less shade, warmer water, weaker streambanks, and fewer food sources for salmon.
Keeping our streambanks healthy helps keep salmon habitat healthy too! 🐟
We came. We saw. We conquered! 🌿💪
We showed up to a site packed with invasive plants and got straight to work. After a full team effort, we cleared out a truckload of invasives and gave native species a little more room to grow!
