NICO WYND MEN’S GOLF CLUB SEES TEN TIME CHAMPION DEFEATED

After ten Club Championships over the last fourteen years, perennial winner Jamie Mills was defeated by Andrew Paul, at the end of an intense competition over two successive days on August 19 and 20 at the Nico Wynd Golf Course in South Surrey. Paul, who last took the crown in 2007, edged Mills by an impressive margin of seven strokes.

On the net side (after handicap), Bob Ferguson came from trailing in second place on day 1, to capture his first Net Club Championship. Ferguson defeated Doug McPhee who had posted outstanding first day results to lead both the net and gross leaderboards.

The trophy presentation was made by Saturday Men’s Club Captain, Graham Roberts, who had claimed the Club Championship himself in 2008.

This concludes the 2023 Club Championships with the Tuesday Seniors group crowning their champions in the previous week. The club’s summer season will continue through to the end of October prior to transitioning to the winter and spring schedule.

Applications for membership in this long running golf club are available through their website at: nwmgc.ca or by asking for information at the pro-shop. Players of all handicaps over the age of 19 are welcome to apply.

After a 1.5-million-dollar renovation and update to the clubhouse, Nico Wynd Golf Course held their Official Grand Re-Opening on Friday, May 12th.
Organized by Golf and Grill Manager, Cindy Charles, the warm and blue-sky evening featured live music, beverages and plenty of appetizers and desert for the large number of attendees. Guests included many of the Nico Wynd residents, the Strata Council President and Council members, the general public and vendors and a large contingent from the Nico Wynd Mens Golf Club who make this their home on Tuesdays and Saturdays for 18-hole play. The Club Captain did share with some of the guests a recent letter from British Columbia Golf noting that our latest contribution of $5000.00 to Junior Golf in Zone 3 brings the club’s total to over $65,000.00. He also noted that there are some limited number of membership openings for the Saturday group.
Guests were shown the renovation upgrades which included a complete redecoration of the clubhouse interior, significant improvements to the kitchen facilities, the installation of an elevator to the second floor and new patio furniture and gas firepits on the spacious outdoor deck.
The course itself is in exceptional condition with a team led by Golf Superintendent, Craig Robison, and the public has been out in large numbers with the recent sunny and warm weather.

This evening, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM is the official Grand Re-opening of the recently renovated Nico Wynd Golf Course clubhouse and outdoor deck. This major project involved vast improvements to the kitchen area, a modernization of the indoor seating area that included this installation of "garage door" style openings to provide an open-air atmosphere, a brand new elevator to provide access to the second floor meeting rooms for those with mobility issues and a major facelift to the outdoor deck with new tables and chairs along with 4 gas firepits for relaxing and socializing after your game. Many members of the Nico Wynd Men's Golf Club, including the Executive, will be in attendance and will gladly answer questions about our Saturday and Tuesday groups. Although Tuesday membership is currently full, interested players can be placed on the waiting list. There are a limited number of openings for the Saturday group and, at a time when golf's popularity has made it difficult to get tee times, our group has a confirmed block of 18 hole times every Saturday morning throughout the year.
