A Message from Whalley Little League

Whalley Little League would like to sincerely apologize for our recent social media post endorsing a candidate in the upcoming municipal election.

It has since been brought to our attention that political endorsements are not permitted under Little League policy. This was an honest oversight on our part, as we were unaware of this restriction at the time of posting.

Our intention was simply to recognize an individual who has dedicated many years to our league and community. However, we understand that Whalley Little League must remain politically neutral, and we respect that policy.

We have removed the original post and apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding it may have caused.

Whalley Little League remains committed to what matters most: providing a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable baseball experience for our kids and families.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Whalley Little League Board of Directors

⚾ Introducing Your New Whalley Little League Board of Directors! ⚾

Whalley Little League made history at our AGM as we elected Cheryl Blake as the first female President in our league’s history! Congratulations, Cheryl, an exciting and well-deserved milestone for WLL.

Joining Cheryl on the Executive Committee:

President: Cheryl Blake
1st Vice President: Kevyn Nobel
2nd Vice President: Julie Lowe
Secretary: Charmaine Stewart
Registrar: Deana Burtnick

And congratulations to our elected General Board Members some of which are returning from last season:

Silvia Segovia - Returning
Morgan Anderson - Returning
Erik Kluth - Returning
Ben Whitney - Returning
Brent Harris - Returning
Jessie Walsh
Shayne Robinson
Erik Nguyen
Mark Wilson
Dayne Jones - Returning
Mike Van der Kley

I also want to sincerely thank every member of our outgoing Board. Volunteering for a youth organization takes a tremendous amount of time and commitment, often behind the scenes. Thank you for everything you gave to our players, families and Whalley Little League.

As my time as President comes to an end, I leave with an incredible amount of pride and gratitude.

I started at Whalley as a parent and coach in 2016, joined the Board in 2023, moved onto the Executive in 2024, and had the privilege of becoming President later that year. What started as wanting to help create a great experience for my own kids became a commitment to every child and family who calls Whalley Little League home.

This past season, we welcomed 345 players across six divisions, along with our 9U, 12U and 14U girls teams. But the numbers only tell part of the story. What I’ll remember most are the kids, families, coaches, volunteers and friendships that make Whalley such a special community.

It has been one of the greatest honours of my life to serve as President of this incredible league.

I wish Cheryl and the entire new Board nothing but success. Take care of this league, protect its incredible legacy, and most importantly, always remember why we are here:

It's for the kids. ⚾💙

Thank you,
Clint Stewart
Past President 🙏🏻❤️

⚾️ Grassroots to Champions—this is exactly what we mean. 💙

We develop them from their first days on the diamond, helping them grow through every division and become the best version of themselves.

One of our newest rookies—and she’s loving every minute! 🥹⚾️

This is where champions begin. 💙

🧡 EVERY. CHILD. MATTERS. 🧡

Today, we do not simply wear orange.
We remember.
We listen.
We grieve.
We learn.

We honor the children who were taken from their families, their languages, their cultures and their communities.
We honor the children who never made it home.
We honor the Survivors who did return home — carrying experiences no child should ever have been forced to endure.
And we honor the families and generations who continue to live with the impacts of Canada’s residential school system.

At Whalley Little League, everything we do begins with children.
Every child who steps onto our diamonds deserves to know they matter.
They deserve to feel safe.
They deserve to feel valued.
They deserve to feel heard.
They deserve to feel proud of who they are and where they come from.

Today reminds us that there was a time in our country when Indigenous children were denied those very things.
We cannot change what happened.
But we can refuse to look away.
We can listen to the truth.
We can teach the next generation.
And we can choose to be part of reconciliation.

Because reconciliation is not something we acknowledge for one day and forget tomorrow.

It is a commitment we carry forward.
For the children who never came home.
For the Survivors.
For their families.
For generations past, present and future.

From our entire Whalley Little League community:
🧡 We see you.
We honor you.
We remember you.

EVERY CHILD MATTERS — TODAY, TOMORROW, AND ALWAYS. 🧡

Hello Whalley Little League Families,

Our Annual General Meeting is coming up on Tuesday, October 6, and we are asking members of our Whalley Little League community to consider stepping forward and joining our Board of Directors.

Whalley Little League has a long and proud history, but continuing that legacy takes volunteers willing to give some of their time to help keep our league strong for the next generation of players.

What does being a board member involve?

Board members help with the operation and direction of the league throughout the year. Depending on your role and availability, this can include helping with registration, teams and divisions, tournaments and special events, fundraising, facilities, equipment, social media, sponsorships, or simply lending a hand where it is needed.

You do not need to be a baseball expert or have previous board experience. We need parents and community members with different skills, backgrounds and ideas who share one thing in common: wanting to provide our kids with a fun, safe and inclusive place to play baseball.

And please don’t let being new to a position hold you back. Help and support will be provided to anyone who needs it during the transition. Current and experienced board members will be available to help explain responsibilities, answer questions and make the transition into your new role as smooth as possible. You will not be expected to figure everything out on your own.

The commitment varies depending on the position. Board members attend meetings, take responsibility for their area of the league, and work together as a team throughout the season. There are larger roles and smaller roles, so there are opportunities for people with different amounts of time to give.

Our league cannot operate without volunteers. The more people who step forward, the more we can spread out the workload and continue improving the experience we provide for our players and families.

If you have ever thought about getting more involved, this is your opportunity. Even if you are unsure what position might be right for you, please reach out and have a conversation with us.
