PLEASE SEE THIS EXCITING OPPORTUNITY!!!!
Dear Provincial Sport Organizations/Sport NS staff,

As the new school year gets underway, we are pleased to remind you that intake is open for the Sport School Credit Program – Coaching and Officiating.

The program provides Grade 10, 11 and 12 students with an opportunity to earn a full high school credit for their involvement in coaching or officiating within sport in Nova Scotia.

Who Can Participate?

The program is open to current Grade 10, 11 and 12 students who are:

Coaching or officiating in sport;
Participating with a recognized sport organization or PSO member; and
Interested in developing their coaching or officiating skills while earning a high school credit.
Students can begin and complete the program at any time during their Grade 10–12 years.

We encourage all PSOs to share this opportunity with your clubs, associations, coaches, officials, athletes and families. This is a great way to recognize the valuable contribution that young people make to sport in Nova Scotia while supporting their education and leadership development.

Registration and specific program information can be found at: High School Personal Development Credit | Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage

For questions about the program, please contact [email protected].

Thank you for helping us promote this opportunity throughout the Nova Scotia sport system.

With September always comes new and exciting things at Island Martial Arts Center. This year is no different as we are pleased to announce a new program soon to be offered here at IMAC.

Gummoodo is the way of the Korean sword. Technically, Gummoodo places strong emphasis on relaxation, proper coordination of both hands, body alignment, footwork, balance, blade control, cutting mechanics, distance, timing, and maintaining control of the sword throughout every movement.

Gummoodo also goes beyond sword technique. Its training philosophy emphasizes discipline, respect, concentration, confidence, leadership, and personal development.

It represents the culmination of years of sword training, teaching experience, research, and martial arts philosophy, developed into an independent and continually evolving sword martial art.

Master Keith MacNeil is the first Canadian student of Grandmaster Moon Kim, and soon will be offering classes in this dynamic and traditional sword and weapons art. Stay tuned for details as we work to provide our students with the best martial arts training in our area!

Which sparring partner made you better?

Was it “the brutal one” — the person who made every round feel like survival and taught you that panic wastes energy?

Was it “the technician”— the one who exposed every lazy guard, every bad angle, every shortcut you thought you could get away with?

Was it “the patient one”— the fighter who never rushed, never chased, and somehow made you defeat yourself?

Or was it “the one who wouldn’t quit”— exhausted, bruised, breathing hard, but still standing in front of you when the round should have broken them?

Every sparring partner teaches you something different.

Some teach you how to absorb pressure.
Some teach you how to think.
Some teach you timing.
Some teach you what determination actually looks like.

Truth is, the best opponents are not always the ones you enjoy facing.

Sometimes they are the ones you quietly hope you dont get partnered with. They are the ones who force something out of you that comfortable training never could.

So think about it:

Which sparring partner made you better?

And what did they teach you?
