Hey Junior golfers! These are the events scheduled this season for the Golf Thunder Bay Junior Club. Join us on Sunday May 12th at 5pm for a meet a greet, receive a few golf tips from the Pros Pat Berezowski and Dave Reid on the Chapples driving range. Not signed up yet, no problem, we can sign you up on Sunday or through the online store at www.golfthunderbay.ca.
We will be looking for volunteer help this season from parents and friends. Help with starting the kids off #1 tee, score posting, scorers to walk with the 11 and unders. Lots of fun jobs for all.

Just a follow up to yesterday's post about the Golf Thunder Bay Junior Club. The Club tournament dates are found under the On Line Store then click on Junior Club Registration.

Hello junior golfers. Check the Golf Thunder Bay website as the CLUB junior tournament dates are listed. Junior Club memberships can now be purchased on line as always.

There will be a meet and greet/clinic session on Sunday May 12, time to be announced, so save that evening. You will also be able to sign up in person for the Club at that time.

I'm going to send out a mass email to all the Junior contacts from the past couple of years very soon. I will be asking IF you wish to come OFF the email list to please reply.

Winter greetings to all junior golfers out there. With this "warm" winter weather we can't or, at least I can't stop thinking, about the approach of a new season. The PGA tour is in swing and the Masters comes around in April as the 1st Major of the pro game.

As many of you know, Pat Berezowski, CPGA professional and Supervisor of Golf will be taking over the reigns of the Golf Thunder Bay Junior Club this year. I just checked out the City of Thunder Bay Website and in the Golf page all is there for junior club registration and a list of the 2024 tournament dates. So do check it out for yourself. Same as last year, click "On Line Golf Store", top left side menu, click on "Junior Golf Club Registration".

I will certainly be helping out next year and Pat would also like to have some moms and dads assist and offer advise to take the Junior program to the next level. I have seen so much improvement in many players over the past 3 years and we need this kind of support to further develop our junior players. He can be reached by email: [email protected]

Just a reminder for the URBAN EYEWEAR Junior/Senior Alternate Shot on Monday Aug. 28 at Strathcona. I have sent out the tee sheets to all our juniors as it was too difficult to separate all those who are not playing the event. I just forgot to mention that JUNIORS WILL TEE OFF ON ODD NUMBERED HOLES, SENIORS ON EVEN. Juniors will play from the normal tees according to age and Seniors from Yellow tees. Orange tees will be out on the odd numbered holes for the 11 and under's and Girls but probably not in their usual spots.

Hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer as the days start to get a little shorter and in a couple of weeks you will be heading back to school. We have had a great tournament season. Only the Scharf Mechanical having a wet day and a lower turnout resulted. However a big thank you to all the members and other players who supported the Golf Thunder Bay Junior Club through the 2023 season. A special shout out to all the winners and everyone who participated.

As much as our tournaments are meant to be fun we have to recognize good golf skills and I see skills and scores getting better each year as individuals move up and rookies join in every age division through the summer. Our numbers are also growing as we had 66 players at the Acura Stableford tournament earlier this week. What a great turnout.

Thanks to all the parent “monitors” who helped with the 11 and under as well as the girls groups. I also want to thank my main helper this year Jim Bolt who was at all but 1 event to help with set up, scoring starting and finishing off any apple fritters that might have gotten stale on those long hot days of summer.

Our wrap up event is the Junior/Senior Alternate Shot with bragging rights only for the best score. This years sponsor is Urban Eyewear. Mothers, Fathers, Guardians, Uncles even grandparents can take part with a junior golfer.

This fun event will take place at Strathcona on the 28th of August and will be a shot gun on the front 9 so that everyone will have to arrive early to get to their designated hole and tee off at 6pm. This means everyone will finish close to the same time and as many as can stay will enjoy a big pizza party in the upstairs lounge.

There will be 8 players (4 two person teams on every tee and an extra 8 on hole number 1, so unfortunately we will be limited to the first 80 entries.

Registration is now OPEN by emailing [email protected] I will need the names of both the junior and the senior player and a $5.00 charge per person for pizza will be collected when you check in upstairs after play. If you do not want pizza please indicate in your email as we must order in advance.

The Thunder Bay Junior Golf Club wound up the regular season with the Balmoral Park Acura Invitational on Tuesday August 15th. This event was scored by Modified Stableford where total points wins the day.

The overall winner was decided by a playoff between Jordan Walford and Matthew Lysac, last weeks winner of the Junior OPEN. Lysak once again took the title for his 2nd win in as many weeks. Third place belonged to Nic Pavletic. Daniel Lombardo and Luke Martyniuk wrapped up the 16-18 division.

Michael Figliomeni bested the 14-15 class with Nathan Hoogsteen, Ben deGroot, Carter Kelly, Tristan Warywoda and Tristan Jaspers wrapping up the top 6 places.

At the 12-13 age classification, Mason Glousher captured first place while Kellan Ozerkavich, Caden McLeod and Gavin Godick, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. Cole Witiluk grabbed 5th spot in the division.

In the 11 and Under, Nathan Pugliese sealed the victory with an eagle 2 on hole 9 capturing 8 points to catapult him ahead of Shea Skillen, Liam Figliomeni and Cullen Henny who tied for 2nd. Fifth spot went to Austin Roy, 6th to Carter Kaskew.

The girls division also saw a playoff to decide first place. Itiaron Olowola bettered sister Itiafa in the playoff to secure the win. Ellie Jaspers and Itiosi Olowola shared 3rd place while Vienna Minnella took 5th.

Another great day on the Chapples course. Thanks to Supervisor of Golf Operations, Pat Berezowski for starting all the players off and to Mark Lysak who helped with monitoring and scoring.

Congratulations to the winners and all 64 juniors who played our final formal tournament. Our last event will be the Junior/Senior Alternate Shot sponsored by Urban Eyewear at Strathcona on August 28th. This is a bragging rights only event wrapping up the season with a pasta dinner.

What a great competitive season. Thanks to all players for your fine play and sportsmanship. Thanks to all the newcomers who played 1 or more events. I hope you will consider joining the club in 2024.
