Over the past few days, we’ve asked our dancers: what do your roots mean to you?

As we close this week-long series, no one could have said it more beautifully than Mar’yana Farion - a dancer, a mother, and someone we are so proud to have share this stage with.

In her words…

К – Колискова (Lullaby)
Та лагідна пісня яку я чула від своєї мами коли ще була в утробі. А тепер і досі під неї заколисую свого синочка.

That gentle song I heard from my mother while I was still in the womb — and now I still use it to lull my own son to sleep.

О – Оберіг (Talisman)
Сімейна реліквія яка передається з покоління в покоління. Із кожним наступним стає все більш цінною.

A family heirloom passed down from generation to generation, becoming more precious with each one.

Р – Родина (Family)
Коло найближчих людей без яких не уявляєш свого життя.

The circle of closest people without whom you cannot imagine your life.

І – Історія (History)
Історія нашої славної України і власної родини.

The story of our glorious Ukraine and of our own family.

Н – Незламна, Незалежна, Нескорена Нація
Ми, українці, показали всьому світу що таке мужність.

An unbreakable, independent, and unconquered nation. We, Ukrainians, have shown the world what courage truly means.

Н – Натхнення (Inspiration)
Наша культура настільки різноманітна і багата що дозволяє створювати безліч нового беручи за основу щось старе і забуте.

Our culture is so rich and diverse, allowing us to create something new from what is old and once forgotten.

Я – Янгол (Angel)
Український алфавіт починається з Ангела а закінчується Янгелом. В усіх наших традиціях, обрядах і ремеслах завжди присутній Бог і віра.

The Ukrainian alphabet begins with an angel and ends with an angel. In all our traditions, rituals, and crafts, God and faith are always present.

The story doesn’t end.
It continues - through our dancers, our families, and every step we share on stage.

An Ensemble dancer with Chaban, Alistan brings her roots to life on stage.

Through dance, she connects with her Ukrainian heritage - the traditions, music, folklore, and the beauty of our costumes.

For her, it is storytelling in motion - and one of the most joyful expressions of her cultural roots.
